Douglas Clay Waide, U.S. Army (Retired), of Aransas Pass, Texas born on November 24, 1944 in San Diego, California passed away on October 8, 2019 at the age of 74 in Corpus Christi,Texas. Mr. Waide first  served in the U.S. Army (1962-66); then the U.S. Marines and was Retired from the U.S. Army as Major with over 20 years of military service. He is survived by his wife: Betty Sue (Donnell) Waide of Aransas Pass, Texas; son: Andy Waide of Texarkana,TX; brother: Doyle Waide, of Georgetown,TX; stepchildren: Mellani and Kenneth Jones, of Victoria,TX, Lynn and Karen Atkinson, Zavalla, TX and Barbara and Wayne Anderson, Calallen,TX; grandchildren: Kenny Craig, Tiffany, Megan, Alyssa, Steven, Cody, Amanda; great grandchildren: Coby , Chelsea and Greyson; and great great grandchildren: Karson and Libby; and other relatives. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 9:00a.m. with Funeral Services beginning at 11:00a.m. at Eckols Chapel with Rev. Aaron Corporon of Choate First Baptist Church officiating. On October 3rd, 2019, the Lord welcomed a new Angel. Shawn D. Williams lost his long battle with cancer on that day. Shawn is survived by his wife Lori, mother Sandy Hunt Satterfield (Jack), sons Timothy Williams and David Ames (Ferran), daughters Hannah and Stephanie (Christopher), grandchildren Bianca, Isabella and Rebekah as well as numerous other blended/extended family members.

Shawn was born on August 3, 1969 and grew up in San Antonio, After graduating from Roosevelt High School he attended both San Antonio College and the Univ of Texas @ San Antonio. When in his early twenties, he moved to the family farm in Choate, TX and pursued his life-lomg career in the construction business. He loved raising his cattle, hunting and fishing or bar-b-que-ing for family and friends.

Following in footsepts of his great-grandfather (C.B.Hunt) and grandfather (Wm. Cledy Hunt), Shawn became a Master Mason as a very young man. Through the years he served as the Master of his lodge several times and eventually pursued higher degrees in the Scottish Rite, Shrine and others. Masonry made a good man better–a better husband, better father, better son and better friend. He believed in and tried to live his life according to those principles.

Although not overly demonstrative, he had a deep and abiding faith in his Father in Heaven and in his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Shawn leaves behind a host of family and friends who will miss his kindness, silly antic and jokes, talents, friendship and fellowship. A quote from Jamie Anderson–“Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give but cannot. All of that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in our throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.”

Visitation will be held Monday, October  7, 2019 from 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Graveside services to be held Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 10:00a.m. at Choate Cemetery, Choate, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shrine Childrens’ Hospital or a charity of your choice to honor Shawn’s memory.

Jose Cano, Jr, Age 69, of Kenedy, TX passed away October 3, 2019 in San Antonio, TX. Jose was born on February 1, 1950 in Karnes City, TX to the late Jose, Sr. and Lena Garza Cano.  He married Hilaria Villarreal on Jan. 5, 1972 in Kenedy.  Jose served his country proudly in the US ARMY during the Vietnam War; was a master carpenter, a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jose, Sr. and Lena Garza Cano; sisters, Eva Casarez, Nora Rodriguez and a brother Romeo Cano, Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife Hilaria Villarreal Cano of Kenedy; daughters, Peggy Duenes of San Antonio, Yvette Perales and Husband Robert of Hobson, Miranda Cano of Kenedy; Son, Joe Cano III and wife Brenda of Kenedy; sisters, Nancy (Gerald) Mooney of Corpus Christi, Dora (Rudy) Saenz of Kenedy, Elma Cortez of Kenedy; brother, Roy (Lula) Cano of Kenedy, 5 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Sunday, October 6, 2019 at 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Larry Hedtke passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, October 1, 2019 . Larry was born October 2, 1946, to Gustav and Viola Hedtke in Karnes County. He was a graduate of Karnes City High School, and attended San Antonio College. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a medic for two years, and was a proud Vietnam veteran. Larry married Beverly Deskin on August 19, 1972, in Karnes City. And for almost 40 years he worked for Farm Bureau  Insurance Company. He loved his Farm Bureau family and clients.

Larry also served on many boards and councils: Karnes County Hospital, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Karnes City Library, Badger Comeback, and Karnes City United Methodist Church. One of his most enjoyable activities was being the “Voice of the Badgers” on game tapes for 20+years. He also enjoyed being MC of the Miss Town and Country Days Pageant for 20 years.

Larry loved shredding on his tractor, and said this was where he did his best thinking. He loved gardening, boating, his country, Karnes County, and the Ojo Rojo Ranch. Most of all Larry loved his family and friends. His two grandsons, Declan and Colton, never failed to bring a smile to his face. Larry was so proud of his sons, Wade and Garrett, who always  were the apples of his eye. His loving and supportive wife, Beverly, made his life complete. The last 14 years of Larry’s life were blessed by his constant companion, his border collie, Cinco. They went to town every Saturday morning together for breakfast tacos.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Allan, sister-in-law Judy, brother-in-law Elroy, and niece Vicky. Larry is survived by his wife Beverly, sons, Wade and Garrett, daughter-in-law Ashley, grandons Declan and Colton, sister Ruby Seeger, Cyndy and Steve Davis, Gary and Ann Deskin, Darryl and Julie Deskin, Wes and Louiza Deskin, Will and Jenna Robinson, Clayton and Becca Robinson. Terrell and Stacey Seeger, Jerry Seeger, Jim Seeger, Bob and Kathy Seeger, and numerous great nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 4, 2019 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel in Kenedy, Texas. AC (Claud) Huff, a self-made man, if ever there was one. Founder and past owner of Huff Marine; Daddy knew outboard boats and motors like no other. Sold them, raced them, fished in them, fixed them! Even at 104, he still loved to talk boats with anyone who took the time. And if you took the time, you’d learn something! Today’s engines aren’t the ones Daddy mastered years ago, but with his sharp mind he kept up with how things were going at ‘the shop’ on a daily basis. He was a no nonsense guy with little use for small talk. Talk business or don’t talk!

He was the Dallas Cowboys greatest fan. A time or two over the years, he even called the Cowboys headquarters to voice his concerns over how the last game was played. But regardless whether they won or lost, he was ready for the next game! He so enjoyed watching them win one last time!

Guess you can say Daddy was a pretty headstrong and determined person. He grew up in a time where a man had to have that kind of grit to survive. But he did more than survive, he lived a long successful life. He will be greatly missed.

Daddy was surrounded by his beloved family when he stepped into eternity, Monday, September 9, 2019. Our hearts are heavy but our spirits rejoice as he is reunited with his beloved wife, Jean, who preceded him in death March of 2007. He is also welcomed home by his son: Bill and grandson-in-law: Sam.

Daddy was born October 26, 1914 in Bee House, Texas. His early years were spent in Gateville,Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his daughter: Brenda Nance and husband Ronnie Nance; granddaughter: Heather Painter and fiancé, Chad Marshall.

Daddy lived his last 3 years at Trinity Towers in his own apartment. He loved exercise class and talking to so many downstairs. Loved the staff always loving on him.

Thank you to Michelle, Arlene, Miram and Desiree for serving the best meals. Your kindness and love to go above and beyond for him. Thank you to Beth for always planning the best parties (Valentines Day King) for him. Thank you Dalia for making everything special-finding the perfect place for him to live. Thank you Ann and Reyna for your last care for him. And Tina, thank you for spoiling him and coming by.

Becky Arriaga-sister, just not enough words of appreciation to you for your perfect care you gave Daddy-love-tons of laughs-stories Oh My! Your calm personality and your ability to get him laughing. How you kept daddy so perfect. I wish he would be celebrating another birthday with you-you made his stay at Trinity the best. He love you. We love you and wish you a speedy recovery. Daddy you were my challenge but we made it. I love you so much and so glad-now after 12 years, your are with mama. This is the period at the end of our sentence. He’s our legend! Love and miss you Daddy!

Frances R. Longoria, Age 91, of Kenedy, TX passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019 in Karnes City, TX. Frances was born on February 24, 1928 in Stockdale to the late Apolito and Minga Rivas Rodriguez.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker, and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.  She is preceded in death by her husband Blas Longoria, Sr.; parents, Apolito and Minga Rivas Rodriguez, sons, Cosme Longoria, Chon Longoria, Johnny Longoria, Toby Longoria, Sr.; and a grandson, Toby “T.J.” Longoria, Jr..  She is survived by her daughters, Minnie Prieto and husband Steve of Kenedy, Katie Lomas and husband Jesse of Pasadena, Mary Jane Aguero of Karnes City, Corina Santos and Rene Rosales of Kenedy; sons, Blas Longoria and wife Rose of Corpus Christi, Paul Longoria and wife Sobie of Kenedy; brother, Antonio Rodriguez of Florida and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  A Holy Rosary will be recited Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Adela M. Davila of Kenedy, Texas was born on December 21, 1950 in Runge,TX to the late Pedro and Idalia Jasso Moreno passed away on September 6, 2019 at the age of 68. Mrs. Davila was a member of the Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and the Guadalupana Society. She was retired from Stimson Furniture (now Ashley Furniture) after over 40 years of service. She is preceded in death by her husband Lupe V. Davila; her brothers: Joe Moreno and Pedro Moreno and parents. Abel Acevedo Rodriguez, aged 79, of Karnes City Texas passed away on September 4, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Abel was born to Pedro Rodriguez and Petra Acevedo Rodriguez on May 1, 1940 in Beeville Texas. He married Ester Saenz on February 16, 1963 and they lived together in Karnes City Tx. Together they raised 4 children.

Abel was a heavy equipment operator, mechanic and truck driver until he retired in 2015. He was an avid member of Smirna Pentecostal Church in Pawnee, Texas where he served as a Deacon.

His family remembers him as their rock and a man of God.

He was preceded in death by parents Pedro & Petra Acevedo Rodriguez. Brothers: Victor Acevedo, Santos Rodriguez, Mauricio Rodriguez, Benancio Rodriguez, and Domingo Rodriguez; Sisters: Tomasa Alvarado, Eustacia Saenz, Alicia Garza and granddaughter Teagan Grace Rodriguez.

Abel leaves his wife of 56 years Ester Saenz Rodriguez and as his legacy Noel (Sonja) Rodriguez of Three Rivers,Tx, Oralia Urrutia (Tony Cruz) of Kenedy, Tx, Enrique Rodriguez of Normanna, Tx and Edward (Jennifer) Rodriguez of Kenedy Tx.

Karon Etta Bond, formerly of Kenedy,Texas was born on October 6, 1939 in Shiner, Texas to Elwood Marberger and Bess Zavesky Marberger passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the age of 79 at the Guadalupe Regional Hospital in Seguin, Texas surrounded by her husband and family. Mrs. Bond married Bailey Bond on October 11, 1957 and was operator of the Sears Catalog Store of Kenedy,Texas.
