Roy G. Cano

September 16, 1959 – December 28, 2023

Roy G. Cano, age 64, went peacefully surrounded by his family to be with our Loving Lord on December 28th 2023 in Kenedy, Texas after a valiant battle with an aggressive cancer.  He was born in Lubbock, Texas on September 16, 1959 to the late Jose and Lena Garza Cano.  

Roy married Audulia (Lula) Munoz on August 25th 1979 and made their home in Kenedy, Texas where they lived a very simple life.  Although Roy and Lula did not have children of their own, they both had a special place in their hearts for children.  They helped raise three beautiful girls, Ruby, Anna, and Daniela Jimenez.  These young ladies along with their children made their lives complete by bringing them many wonderful memories throughout the years.  As Roy battled his cancer, they were by his side to support and encourage him. 

Those left behind to cherish Roy’s memory are his devoted wife of 44 years, Lula Cano, his sisters, Elma (the late Juan) Cortez of Kenedy, Nancy (Gerald) Mooney of Corpus Christi, and Dora (Rudy) Saenz of Kenedy.  He also leaves behind the three young ladies he helped raise, Ruby, Anna and Daniela along with their children and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved and that will miss him dearly. 

Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Lena Garza Cano, his siblings, Joe Cano, Romeo Cano, Eva Casarez and Nora Rodriguez.

Visitation will be at Eckols Funeral Home on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 5PM to 7PM with the Rosary and Services beginning at 7PM.  Inurnment will take place a later date.

Bernard James “BJ” Kilbride

Bernard James “BJ” Kilbride, Age 67 of Kenedy, TX passed away on December 17, 2023 in San Antonio, TX. BJ was born on July 1, 1956 in Austin, TX to the Bernard and Avis Kilbride. He retired as a concrete truck driver for the Ready Mix Concrete Company in Lewisville, TX; was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, friend to many and of the Catholic Faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Avis Kilbride.

He is survived by his wife Ofelia Fuentes; children, Jordan Courtney, Keena Carroll, Cory Kilbride; siblings, Sean Kilbride, Sioban Leszczynski, Darach Kilbride, Liam Kilbride and a host of extended family members and friends.

Cruz M. Adame Rodriguez

Cruz M. Adame Rodriguez, Age 72 of Kenedy, TX passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 in San Antonio, TX.  Cruz was born on May 3, 1951 in Karnes City to the late Ismael Adame and Adelia De Luna.  Cruz married Joe Rodriguez in November of 1981 was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ismael Adame and Adelia De Luna; sister, Cora Martinez and a brother, Alfredo Garcia.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joe L. Rodriguez; son, Adam Aviles and wife Christine; sisters, Susie Adame, Elda Olivares, Dora Gonzales, Teresa Gonzales, Victoria Adame; brothers, Joe Martinez, Juan Adame, Ismael Adame, Jr.; grandchildren, April Lynn Patlan, Natileigh Aviles, Kayleigh Aviles; great-grandchildren, Zoe Rae Baker, Mileena Maeve Patlan, numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 10AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Ploch officiating.  Interment will follow in the Loma Alta Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.

Servando Chapa, Jr.

Servando Chapa, Jr. Age 72 of Pettus, TX passed away December 14, 2023 in San Antonio surrounded by his loving family.  Servando was born on October 31, 1951 in Beeville to the late Servando, Sr. and Lucia Cruz Chapa.  He married Teresa Montez on November 26, 1976 in Beeville, TX, served his country proudly in the U.S. AIRFORCE, was a retired coordinator for BCAA in Beeville, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and of the Catholic Faith. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Servando, Sr. and Lucia Cruz Chapa and his two sisters, Gloria Chapa and Mary Jane Torres.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 amazing years, Teresa Montez Chapa of Pettus, children, Valerie Chapa Trevino and JR Taylor of Pettus, Jason Chapa of Pettus; sisters, Lorraine Chapa of Austin; Tammy Chapa of Victoria; brothers, Ricardo Chapa and wife Brenda of Corpus Christi, Ray Chapa and wife Aida of Dilley, Jose Chapa and wife Jo Ann of Odem; brother-in-laws, Lorenzo Torres and Eustacio Chapa; grandchildren, Brittany Treviño and Darrenger Lile, Leigha Treviño, Robert Michael Treviño, Jaydin Chapa, Jayzlin Chapa, Jenna Chapa and great-granddaughter Jai Nicole Chapa and a host of family members and dear friends.

When Servando wasn’t supporting and cheering on his grandkids in their extracurricular activities, he enjoyed watching western movies, the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, or sitting outside listening to his favorite music.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Monday, December 18, 2023 at 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel in Kenedy, Texas.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 10AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kenedy, Texas with the Rev. Robert Ploch Officiating.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Pettus Cemetery in Pettus, TX.

Rosita Reyna Barrera

It is with great sadness that the family of Rosita Barrera announces her passing.  Rosita peacefully entered eternal rest at the age of 91 in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 10, 2023 in Karnes City, Texas. 

Born in Kenedy, Texas on July 28, 1932, Rosita Barrera, widow, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, was a long-time resident of Karnes City, Texas and a devout parishioner of St. Cornelius Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the Guadalupana Society. 

Following her marriage to her late husband Martin Sr. in 1950, Rosita worked alongside her late husband at their farms in Kenedy and then later Nordheim, Texas.  Martin and Rosita were blessed with fifty years of holy matrimony.  Shortly after moving to Karnes City in 1979, Rosita worked as a nurses-aid at retirement homes in Karnes City and Kenedy, and later worked as a private healthcare professional for local area families.  Her friendly and loving spirit made her a natural caregiver and she was well loved by both coworkers and patients. 

Rosita will be eternally remembered by her children Irene Tamez (husband Leonardo, Jr.), Arlene De Los Santos, Angie Castillo (husband James), and Martin Barrera Jr. (wife Veronica) and by her grandchildren, Kimberly Saucedo, Nancy Messex, Clarissa Barrera, Jose Barrera, Justen Felmley, Johanna Tamez Calk, Leonardo Tamez, III, Jeremy Andrew De Los Santos, Garett Issac De Los Santos, Tihishia Marie Reza, James Xavier Castillo, Sunshine Colette Barrera Castro, and Sebastian Martin Barrera Castro, and her twenty great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. 

Rosita was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Barrera Sr, her parents Jose and Emilia Reyna, her son Juan Barrera, her son-in-law Rudolph De Los Santos Jr., her grandson Juan Mateo Tamez, her brothers Jose Reyna Jr., Rufino Reyna, Ricardo Reyna and her sisters Angelita Reyna, and Nora Reyna Del Bosque.

A Rosary Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, December 12 at 7:00 pm at Eckol’s Funeral Home, 420 Live Oak Street, Kenedy, Texas. 

A Catholic Mass will be celebrated in memory of Rosita on Wednesday, December 13, at 10:00 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 605 Karnes Street, Kenedy, Texas.

A Catholic Burial will immediately follow her mass at Loma Alta Cemetery, 100 County Road 329, Kenedy, Texas.

Rosita’s Pallbearers are Leonardo Tamez, III, Jeremy De Los Santos, Garrett De Los Santos, Xavier Castillo, Sebastian Barrera Castro, and Justen Felmley. 

Rosita’s Honorary Pallbearers are Jose Barrera, Steven Barrera, Martin Calk, Alex Calk, Jose Luis Solis, Johnny Sanchez, Joe Flores, Jr., Thomas Reyna, Albert Garcia, Rolando Ortiz, Rodrigo Ortiz, Kirby Haertner and Leon Matula.

Juan Manuel Granado

Juan Manuel Granado, Age 66 of Stockdale, TX passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023 in San Antonio, TX.  Juan was born on February 17, 1957 in Kenedy to the late Manuel and Louisa Estrada Granado.  He was a loving father, uncle, brother, grandfather, a master carpenter and of the Catholic Faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Louisa Estrada Granado; sisters, Gloria May, San Juanita Beltran and Yolanda Granado.

He is survived by his children, Joni Serna of Fort Worth, Justin Granado of Fort Worth, Joshua Granado of Luling; sisters, Esperanza Zapata of Pearsall, Beatriz Martinez of Kenedy, Anna Eldridge of Seguin; 6 Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Monday, December 11, 2023 at 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 10AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Pohl officiating.  Interment will follow in the Loma Alta Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.

Maynette L. Anderson

Maynette L. Anderson peacefully passed away the afternoon of November 29, 2023, at the age of 87 in the Haven Oaks Assisted Living in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on September 9, 1936 to Henry Humphries and Nora Armstrong Humphries in Oakville, Texas. She was the middle child with an older sister and younger brother. Growing up, Maynette’s dream was to always be a wife and mother. She achieved that dream at 17 years old when she married Sonny Hahn. They were blessed with 5 children which they loved and raised to be successful, compassionate, loving adults who have become parents and grandparents. Maynette was a devoted mother and was a homemaker until 1977 when she entered the workforce being employed at the Mockingbird Motel and Greyhound Bus Station. She always enjoyed talking to people whether they were friends or strangers especially if they had a baby or small children. All ages were drawn to her warm, loving smile. Her longest employment started in 1981 at Karnes Land Title Company where she liked the challenge of researching titles and documents. In her free time, Maynette also worked at Wal-Mart part-time and was an expert seamstress who could sew just about anything from barbie doll clothes to baby blankets to formal gowns. She worked here until she met and then married Bill Anderson on March 3, 2001. Maynette and Bill enjoyed a full life of family, retirement, community service, and church membership until Bill’s death in 2008. Maynette never waivered in her love for her Lord and children especially her own family including her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and all their families. Her greatest pride and joy came from being a caretaker of others.

Maynette is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Anderson, her parents, Charles Henry and Nora Armstrong Humphries as well as her sister, Geraldyne Edna Spencer and her brother, Charles Preston “Punch” Humphries. Maynette is survived by her children, Teresa (Bill) Hyde of Amarillo, TX; Ronny (Debra) Hahn of Kenedy, TX; Jeff (Rhonda) Hahn of Rockport, TX; Kenny (Shari) Hahn of Boerne, TX; Suzy (Joel) Ponton, of San Antonio, TX; twelve grandchildren: James (Tara) Hyde, Julie (Jason) Smith, Austen Hahn, Tabitha (Garrett) Schulz, Clifford (Nicole) Dial, Shannon (Dusty) Burks, Katie (Justin) Ripple, Matthew (Alyce) Hahn, Robert Ruybal, Levi Rogers, Brian Hartman, and Savannah Hartman. Maynette also boasted of 6 great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews; and their spouses.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 5PM to 7PM in the Eckols Chapel. Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 4, 2023 at 10AM in the Eckols Chapel with Rev. Wally Schievebein and Paster Walter Hill, III officiating. Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.
