Clarona “Clara” Ida Koerth Kotzur, Age 89 of Pettus, TX passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2019 in Karnes City, TX.   Clara was born on March 27, 1930 in Yoakum, TX to the late Fred and Leona Windmeyer Koerth.  She married Joseph “Joe” Kotzur on Feb. 10, 1951 in Karnes City, TX; retired as an accountant for K.R. Leggett Construction company in Pettus; was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a member of The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Clara is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Joe” Kotzur; parents Fred and Leona Windmeyer Koerth and a brother Marlin Koerth.

Clara is survived by her daughter, Deborah Styra and husband Ferdinand of Yorktown; sons, Steve Kotzur of Berclair, Terry Wood of Lake Hills; grandson, Brett Styra of Yorktown and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 4, 2019 from 6P.M. to 8P.M. in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 10A.M. at The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wally Schievelbein officiating.  Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery.

Lawana K. (Potter ) Hoff, of Pettus, Texas born on February 19, 1939 to Oliver Potter and Peggy Anderson Potter passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 at her residence at the age of 80. Mrs. Hoff is survived by her husband, Oren D. Hoff, Jr.; daughter and sons, Twila (James) Crothers, Terry Wayne(Mary) Keller, Troy Lee(Stephanie) Keller, all of West Virginia; son, Oren (Debra Lindsey) Hoff III, of Bruni, Texas; brother: Michael Potter;13 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Guadalupe “Lupe” Salas, of Kenedy, TX  born on September 16, 1931 in Runge, TX to Ismael Salas and Manuela Sanchez Salas passed away on October 18, 2019 at the age of 88. Lupe was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings; and her brother-in-law, Manuel Rodriguez. She is survived by her sister: Estella Rodriguez, of Pleasanton, TX; her common-law husband, Dolores Rojas of Kenedy, TX; brother-law- Pedro Vasquez and sister-in-law: Adelfa Salas; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 1:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral services Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 10:00a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with interment to follow in Loma Alta Cemetery. Ida Mae McIver Pogue was born to Hula Mae McIver and James D. McIver on November 1, 1935, in San Antonio, Texas. She attended Alamo Heights High School where she participated in a variety of activities, notably the Jody Drill Team. She attended Baylor University, where she met and fell in love with her future husband Gary Edwards Pogue.   Ida Mae and Gary married in San Antonio on August 6, 1955. They moved to Pawnee, Texas, where she settled into her roles as homemaker and new mom to their first daughter, Lisa.  In 1961 they moved to Kenedy, and welcomed new daughter #2, Laura.  Ida Mae quickly became an integral part of the community, immersing herself in family and church.  As if having two daughters, a husband, and a new home weren’t enough, she soon took on the role of “Second Mom”, mentor, loyal friend and confidant to her daughters’ ever-expanding circle of friends and to her many nieces and nephews.  Throughout the following years, Ida Mae’s commitment to family, church, and her husband’s growing business continued, along with her love of animals (especially dogs).  These things were the focus of her life.  After Gary’s death in 2008, Ida Mae’s life changed drastically, and her health gradually began to fail. She joined Gary in Heaven on October 15, 2019, dying in Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin.  Ida Mae is survived by her daughter Lisa Pogue Yaklin of Kenedy, daughter Laura Pogue Walters and son-in-law Keith Walters of Pleasanton, granddaughter Alexandria Walters of Los Angeles, Gary Luke Walters of Victoria, brother Lanny McIver and his wife Sandy of San Antonio, sister-in-law Dorothy Pogue of Kenedy, and countless nieces and nephews from all over.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 18, 2019 from 5PM to 8PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 11AM at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Pogue and Rev. Matt Singleton officiating.  Private Interment will follow at Sunset in the Pawnee Cemetery.

Douglas Clay Waide, U.S. Army (Retired), of Aransas Pass, Texas born on November 24, 1944 in San Diego, California passed away on October 8, 2019 at the age of 74 in Corpus Christi,Texas. Mr. Waide first  served in the U.S. Army (1962-66); then the U.S. Marines and was Retired from the U.S. Army as Major with over 20 years of military service. He is survived by his wife: Betty Sue (Donnell) Waide of Aransas Pass, Texas; son: Andy Waide of Texarkana,TX; brother: Doyle Waide, of Georgetown,TX; stepchildren: Mellani and Kenneth Jones, of Victoria,TX, Lynn and Karen Atkinson, Zavalla, TX and Barbara and Wayne Anderson, Calallen,TX; grandchildren: Kenny Craig, Tiffany, Megan, Alyssa, Steven, Cody, Amanda; great grandchildren: Coby , Chelsea and Greyson; and great great grandchildren: Karson and Libby; and other relatives. On October 3rd, 2019, the Lord welcomed a new Angel. Shawn D. Williams lost his long battle with cancer on that day. Shawn is survived by his wife Lori, mother Sandy Hunt Satterfield (Jack), sons Timothy Williams and David Ames (Ferran), daughters Hannah and Stephanie (Christopher), grandchildren Bianca, Isabella and Rebekah as well as numerous other blended/extended family members.

Shawn was born on August 3, 1969 and grew up in San Antonio, After graduating from Roosevelt High School he attended both San Antonio College and the Univ of Texas @ San Antonio. When in his early twenties, he moved to the family farm in Choate, TX and pursued his life-lomg career in the construction business. He loved raising his cattle, hunting and fishing or bar-b-que-ing for family and friends.

Following in footsepts of his great-grandfather (C.B.Hunt) and grandfather (Wm. Cledy Hunt), Shawn became a Master Mason as a very young man. Through the years he served as the Master of his lodge several times and eventually pursued higher degrees in the Scottish Rite, Shrine and others. Masonry made a good man better–a better husband, better father, better son and better friend. He believed in and tried to live his life according to those principles.

Although not overly demonstrative, he had a deep and abiding faith in his Father in Heaven and in his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Shawn leaves behind a host of family and friends who will miss his kindness, silly antic and jokes, talents, friendship and fellowship. A quote from Jamie Anderson–“Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give but cannot. All of that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in our throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.”

Visitation will be held Monday, October  7, 2019 from 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Graveside services to be held Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 10:00a.m. at Choate Cemetery, Choate, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shrine Childrens’ Hospital or a charity of your choice to honor Shawn’s memory.

Jose Cano, Jr, Age 69, of Kenedy, TX passed away October 3, 2019 in San Antonio, TX. Jose was born on February 1, 1950 in Karnes City, TX to the late Jose, Sr. and Lena Garza Cano.  He married Hilaria Villarreal on Jan. 5, 1972 in Kenedy.  Jose served his country proudly in the US ARMY during the Vietnam War; was a master carpenter, a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jose, Sr. and Lena Garza Cano; sisters, Eva Casarez, Nora Rodriguez and a brother Romeo Cano, Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife Hilaria Villarreal Cano of Kenedy; daughters, Peggy Duenes of San Antonio, Yvette Perales and Husband Robert of Hobson, Miranda Cano of Kenedy; Son, Joe Cano III and wife Brenda of Kenedy; sisters, Nancy (Gerald) Mooney of Corpus Christi, Dora (Rudy) Saenz of Kenedy, Elma Cortez of Kenedy; brother, Roy (Lula) Cano of Kenedy, 5 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Larry Hedtke passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, October 1, 2019 . Larry was born October 2, 1946, to Gustav and Viola Hedtke in Karnes County. He was a graduate of Karnes City High School, and attended San Antonio College. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a medic for two years, and was a proud Vietnam veteran. Larry married Beverly Deskin on August 19, 1972, in Karnes City. And for almost 40 years he worked for Farm Bureau  Insurance Company. He loved his Farm Bureau family and clients.

Larry also served on many boards and councils: Karnes County Hospital, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Karnes City Library, Badger Comeback, and Karnes City United Methodist Church. One of his most enjoyable activities was being the “Voice of the Badgers” on game tapes for 20+years. He also enjoyed being MC of the Miss Town and Country Days Pageant for 20 years.

Larry loved shredding on his tractor, and said this was where he did his best thinking. He loved gardening, boating, his country, Karnes County, and the Ojo Rojo Ranch. Most of all Larry loved his family and friends. His two grandsons, Declan and Colton, never failed to bring a smile to his face. Larry was so proud of his sons, Wade and Garrett, who always  were the apples of his eye. His loving and supportive wife, Beverly, made his life complete. The last 14 years of Larry’s life were blessed by his constant companion, his border collie, Cinco. They went to town every Saturday morning together for breakfast tacos.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Allan, sister-in-law Judy, brother-in-law Elroy, and niece Vicky. Larry is survived by his wife Beverly, sons, Wade and Garrett, daughter-in-law Ashley, grandons Declan and Colton, sister Ruby Seeger, Cyndy and Steve Davis, Gary and Ann Deskin, Darryl and Julie Deskin, Wes and Louiza Deskin, Will and Jenna Robinson, Clayton and Becca Robinson. Terrell and Stacey Seeger, Jerry Seeger, Jim Seeger, Bob and Kathy Seeger, and numerous great nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
