Manda B. Reid

Manda B. Reid, of Kenedy, Texas was born on December 9, 1921 to Alice and Joseph Foster in Pawnee,TX passed away on March 9, 2020 at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry A. Reid Jr., her daughter, Stephanie Luke, sisters: Viola Fugua and Mary Wheeler and brothers, A. T. Foster and  Fritz Foster. She is survived by her sister Arleen Ponton and family, son: Andrew (Bubba) and his wife, Shirley K. Reid; son-in-law Dale and Fay Luke;  of San Antonio; grandchildren: Alexander Reid, Harrison Reid, Amy Moreno, Amanda Luke Bisset and husband, Britton; Dale Luke, Jr. and wife Bree; and great grandchildren: Jackson Moreno, and Aiden, Connor and Ethan Luke. After high school, Manda B became a registered nurse attending what is now known as The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She subsequently joined the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1951. After the military, she moved to Kenedy,Texas were she met her future husband Harry, on a blind date. They were happily married for 66 years before his death in 2015. During the latter years of Harry’s life, she faithfully took care of him, caring for him daily. Manda B’s nursing career took her through many avenues, serving the community as a school nurse and surgical nurse, as well as Director of Nursing at Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital in Kenedy, Texas. In addition to nursing, Manda B spent many happy years caring for her family and community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kenedy, TX and the Esther Sunday School Class She was a member of the Progressive Study Club and Manda B along with life-long friends served on the Hospitality Committee seeing to the needs of other members of the church. She touched the lives of many people in the community and church.Visitation will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral services Friday, March 13, 2020 at 10:00a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Kenedy,TX with Richard Robinson officiating. Interment in the Kenedy Cemetery. Pallbearers: Britton Bissett, James Foster, Jeff Foster, Joe Foster, Joel Ponton and Scott Ponton.

Armando Padron Trevino, Sr.

Armando Padron Trevino, Sr. of Kenedy died March 6, 2020 in Port Lavaca Tx. He was born September 14, 1948 in Kenedy, to the late Domingo Trevino Sr and Eloisa Padron Trevino. He was a retired Truck Driver and a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.

He married Virginia Trevino on Dec 31, 2011 in Port Lavaca Tx

He survived by his wife Virginia Trevino, daughters Brenda Luna (Ralph), Eloiza Heysquierdo (John), Adriana Soto. Sons Armando Trevino Jr (Katherine), Michael Trevino, Stanley Trevino (LaKeshea). Sisters Clara Soliz and Mary Helen Garcia. Brothers Domingo Trevino Jr, Abel Trevino, Gilbert Trevino, Robert Trevino, and Roy Trevino. Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Monday, March 9, 2020 at 7pm at Eckols Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 10am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Norbert Hermann officiating.

Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.

Corinne Rosa Choate

Corinne Rosa Choate was born October 2, 1926 to Charley and Emma Falkenberg in Flomont, Texas. She left this earth on March 4, 2020 in Idalou, Texas. She lived in the Posey community, attended the Posey school and later moved to Estacado, Texas. She married John Choate in Seguin, Texas on October 21, 1968. They made their home in Kenedy until his death on November 5, 1994. Corinne found the greatest joy in serving her Lord and Savior through her daily work as a wife and homemaker. In 2009 she moved to Idalou, Texas to be near family. She was preceded in death by her parents Charley and Emma Falkenberg, husband John Choate, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Ida Balzen and Ella Mumme of Hondo, Texas. Ernest Falkenberg of Marble Falls, Texas. August Falkenberg of Idalou, Texas. She is survived by 1 brother Hugo Falkenberg of Bovina, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.  A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 2P.M. at the Kenedy Cemetery in Kenedy, TX with Rev. Wally Schievelbein officiating.

Carmelita Guevara

Carmelita Guevara of Kenedy, TX born on July 11, 1938 in Kenedy,TX passed away on February 25, 2020 at the age of 81. Carmelita was preceded in death by her husband Gregorio Rodriguez. Survivors include her son: Billy Joe (Hope) Guevara of Beeville,TX; stepdaughters: Miranda Rodriguez Solano of Conroe,TX and Maria Rodriguez Burrow of Katy,TX; stepsons: Ezequil Casarez of Three Rivers,TX and Gregory Rodriguez of Junction,TX; 17 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister: Alicia Munoz of Belton,TX; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 from 4:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Larry Duckett

Larry Duckett, of Runge, TX born June 27, 1945 passed away on February 10, 2020 at the age of 74. Mr. Duckett was preceded in death by his wife Nancy in March 2019. He is survived by his daughters: Kristy (Gene) Zaiontz of Falls City, TX and Gwyndolyn Lea Montez of San Antonio,TX; two grandsons: Ryan and Eric Montez of San Antonio,TX; sister-in-law: Betsy (Ken) Allard of San Antonio; nephew, Jeff Christian and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 10:00a.m. at the Kenedy Cemetery. Graveside services will begin at 11:00a.m. Friday, Feb. 14th at the Kenedy Cemetery with Rev. Larry Elliott officiating.  Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Ryan and Eric Montez, James Heirholzer, Danny Esparza, Robert Ebrom, Curtis Reynolds, Clayton Reynolds and Leon Phillips.

Vicente Arenas, Sr.

Vicente Arenas Sr, age 82 died peacefully in his sleep at 2:00am Friday February 7, 2020. Vicente a devout Catholic, died after a 7 year battle with Parkinson’s. Vicente left high school to join the Marines in Camp Pendleton, California. He received an honorable discharge from the Corps in 1958 with the rank of Lance Corporal. Vicente married Victoria Aguirre of Pettus, Texas in 1956 and had four children. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid baseball player and founded the Kenedy Sportsmen’s Club which raised money to help boys buy baseball gloves and uniforms. He also managed the local baseball team the Kenedy Aces and the Kenedy Royals.   He also loved Lone Star beer and mariachi music and was known to serenade family and friends and even strangers acapella.  Vicente also loved oak trees and became an expert at growing them on his beloved 6 acres in Kenedy. And that is where his story ends. After becoming diagnosed with Parkinson’s, Vicente asked his family to honor his wishes of dying at home. And that is where he lost his courageous battle with the disease with family at his side.  Vicente was married to his wife Victoria Aguirre Arenas for 63 years.   He raised 3 Daughters Debra, Diana, Basilia, one Son, Vicente Jr.  and a Grandson Eduardo Villarreal Jr.  He is survived by his wife, Victoria Aguirre Arenas of Kenedy, one Sister, Aurora Galvan of Port Lavaca, Texas; Daughters, Debra Ann Cantu and spouse Roberto (Kenedy), DiAnna  and Spouse Alfredo Fuentes, Jr.  (San Antonio),  Basilia and Spouse Elmorris Foley, Jr. (Killeen), son, Vicente Arenas Jr, (Denver); Grandson Eduardo Villarreal Jr and Spouse Jessica (Kenedy). Vicente had 7 grand children and 22Great Grand Children and 10 Great Great Grandchildren.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. in the Eckols Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Norbert Hermann officiating.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery.

Armando Guerrero Aguirre

Armando Guerrero Aguirre, of Kenedy, TX, age 81, passed away on February 5, 2020 in San Antonio, TX. Armando was born in Maxwell, TX October 21, 1938 to Francisco and Carolina Guerrero Aguirre. Armando was a U. S. Army veteran and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He married Grace Holland on Jan. 20, 1962 in Kenedy, TX and she preceded him in death March 4, 2017. He worked for UPS delivering, and worked in the Petro Chemical Construction. He is survived by his son, Gino (Deborah) Aguirre of San Antonio, TX, Dennis (Laura) Aguirre of Houston, TX and John (Mary Alice) Aguirre of Kendy,TX; sisters: Rebecca Rodriguez and Belia Moran; grandchildren: Allyson Aguirre, Andrew Aguirre, Hank Anderson Aguirre, Hayley Blomquist, and Emily Blomquist; great grandson: Sebastian Aguirre; and siters: Rebecca Rodriguez of San Angelo and Belia Moran of San Antonio an other relatives. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2020 from 12:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral Services Monday, February 10, 2020 at 10:00a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with interment in Loma Alta Cemetery. Linley L. McDonald, Sr.

Linley L. McDonald, Sr., age 78 of Kenedy, brought his last tow down the river on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Linley was born on February 10, 1941 in Poteet, TX to Donald J. and Doris E. Williams McDonald.  He married the love of his life, Carolyn R. Collins, on November 29, 1969 in San Antonio, TX.

Linley attended Aransas Pass High School. Upon graduation, he entered into the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country.  He retired as a tow boat captain.  Linley was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, friend to many and a member of the Kenedy First United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Barett L. McDonald, Raymond A. Boullt; and a brother, Jerry C. McDonald.

Linley is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carolyn; sons, Brett A. McDonald and wife Janet of Kenedy, Linley L. McDonald, Jr. and wife Theresa of Cuero; daughter, Kathy Hale of Giddings; 11 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with a Celebration of Life Service immediately following, the Rev. Walter Hill, III, officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers are his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.

Gilbert V. Puente

Gilbert Vasquez Puente, of Kenedy, born June 12, 1942 to Arnulfo Puente and Saragosa Vasquez Puente passed away on February 3, 2020 at the age of 77. Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Cora Elizondo; brothers: Martin, Lupe, Valentin, Alfonso and John Puente. He is survived by his wife: Gloria H. Puente of Kenedy, TX; son: Rick Puente and the lovely memory of his deceased wife Diane Small Puente of Canyon Lake, TX; grandchildren: Joshua Adame of San Antonio, Madison and Kaylee Puente of Canyon Lake, TX; sisters: Tila Solis of Kenedy,TX and Fane Lopez of Edinburg, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held on  Friday, February 7, 2020 from 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Tommy D. Kanak

Tommy D. Kanak, age 83, of San Antonio formerly of Kenedy,TX passed away January 31, 2020. Tommy was born in Halletsville,TX Feb. 3, 1936 to Louis and Emily Munsch Kanak. He married Barbara Magee April 17, 1958 in Pettus,TX. Tommy was a U.S. Army veteran and a Measurement Technician for Valero Energy Transmission Transfer. He is survived by his wife: Barbara Kanak of San Antonio,TX; son: David and his wife Lana Kanak of Antonio,TX and their children Gillian and Brent Kanak; daughter: Connie Cornali of Montgomery,TX and her children Kayla and her husband Chad and their children Jr. Martinez, Kyle Martinez, Dalton Cheeks and Karter Cheeks; daughter: Brooklyn Clopton and her son Tristan; brother: Dan Kanak of Victoria, TX; and a sister-in-law: Lilly Kana of San Antonio, TX.
