Santos Vasquez Jr., of Floresville, TX born on November 12, 1948 in Charco,TX to Santos Vasquez and Eugenia DeLuna Vasquez passed away on March 3, 2019 at the age of 70. Mr. Vasquez was retired from General Mills/Hercules. Santos is survived by his son, Brandon (Crystal Ledwig) Vasquez of Floresville,TX; grandchldren: Aubrey Lynn Vasquez and Jet Ledwig; sister: Linda Pina of Victoria,TX; brothers: Ignacio Vasquez of Pettus,TX, Juan Vasquez of Beeville,TX, Moises Vasquez Sr. of Victoria,TX; numerous neices, nephews and other relatives. Guadalupe Ruiz

Guadalupe Ruiz, born on March 9, 1932 passed away on January 11, 2019 at the age of 86. Mr. Ruiz wishes for his urn to be placed with his parents in Loma Alta Cemetery. Private inurnment to be held.

Nancy Lou Duckett

Nancy Lou Duckett, born on November 8, 1947 in Tyler, Texas to Floyd Patterson and Peggy Whitworth Patterson passed away on March 2, 2019 at the age of 71 at her residence with her husband, Larry by her side.   Nancy was retired from Karnes County as County Treasurer serving two terms. She was also a fire fighter, a restaurant owner, owner of an insurance agency, owner of a campground in Leakey, TX; served as a bookkeeper for Runge school and a Branch Manager for the Runge and Kenedy Banks. Nancy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Larry Duckett of Runge, TX; her daughters: Kristy (Gene) Zaiontz of Falls City, TX and Gwyndolyn Lea Montez of San Antonio, TX; two grandsons: Ryan and Eric Montez of San Antonio, TX; sister, Betsy (Ken) Allard of San Antonio; nephew, Jeff Christian and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral services Friday, March 8, 2019 at 11:00a.m. at Eckols Chapel with interment to follow in Kenedy Cemetery. Gloria Granado May

Gloria Granado May, of Kenedy, TX was born June 17, 1949 to Manuel Granado and Louisa Estrada Granado in Kenedy, TX passed away on March 2, 2019 at the age of 69. Gloria was retired from Otto Kaiser after 30 years of service as an LVN. She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Yolanda Granado. Survivors include her husband, Robert S. May of Kenedy, TX; her daughter, Marisa L. (Rodney) Jaramillo of Kenedy, TX; her sons: Paul (Julie) Justice, Robert (Roxanne) May Jr. of Kenedy, TX; Edward James May of Three Rivers, TX, Robert “Big Bobby” May, of Houston, TX; and Brad May of Houston, TX; sisters: Janie Beltran and Beatrice Martinez, both of Kenedy, TX, Anna Eldridge of Seguin, TX and Esperanza Zapata of Pearsall, TX; brother: Johnny Granado of Seguin, TX; 21 grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 1:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 10:00a.m. Mass of the Resurrection at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with interment to follow in Loma Alta Cemetery. Angelita “Angie” Yanes Martinez

Angelita “Angie “ Yanes Martinez, Age 75 of Kenedy, TX passed away on February 22, 2019 in Kenedy, TX. Angie was born on September 27, 1943 in Kenedy to the late Leopoldo and Demeteria D. Yanes.  She was a local business owner operator in Kenedy; a loving sister, aunt, friend to many and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

She is preceded death by her husband, Jesse B. Martinez; parents, Leopoldo and Demetria D. Yanes; sisters, Adela Martinez Salinas, Lupe Rico infant brothers and sisters, Oscar, Chris, Ninfa, and Elsa.

She is survived by her sisters, Ester (Frank) Salas of Lubbock, Elena (Robert) Llanas of Boling, Diana Martinez of Kenedy; brothers, Alex Garza, III of Kenedy, Steven (Mary) Martinez of Kenedy, and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019 at 7PM in the Eckols Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 1, 2019 at 11:00 A.M.  Interment will follow in the Karnes City Latin Cemetery.

Guadalupe V. Rodriguez

Guadalupe V. Rodriguez, Age 82, of Kenedy, TX passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019 in Victoria, TX. Guadalupe was born on March 5, 1936 in Karnes County, TX to the late Domingo and Irmalinda Valdez Rodriguez.  Guadalupe married Dominga Garcia August 23, 1960 in Kenedy, TX.  He retired as a rancher/farmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend to many and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Guadalupe is preceded in death by his parents Domingo and Irmalinda Valdez Rodriguez; daughter, Patricia Rodriguez; sister, Josie Aguirre; brothers, Dolores Rodriguez, Domingo Rodriguez, Esperion Rodriguez, Felipe Rodriguez, Luis Rodriguez, and a grandson David Ray Rodriguez.

Guadalupe is survived by his loving wife Dominga Garcia Rodriguez of Kenedy; daughters, Paula Rodriguez of San Juan, Sylvia (Samuel) Martinez of Kenedy, Norma Rodriguez of Victoria, Nancy Trevino of Victoria, Elisa (Cosme) Rosales of Victoria, Estella Medina and Rene Pizana of Victoria, Sandra Rodriguez of Victoria, Sara Rodriguez of Kenedy; sons, Guadalupe Rodriguez, Jr. of Victoria, Gilbert Rodriguez of Kenedy, David (Ofelia) Rodriguez of Kenedy, Jesse (GayLynn) Rodriguez of Victoria, Robert Rodriguez of San Diego California, 109 Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.

Jesusa “Susie” Garza Gonzales

Jesusa “Susie” Garza Gonzales, Age 105 of Karnes City, TX passed away on Friday, February 15, 2018 in Karnes City, TX. Jesusa was born on July 31, 1913 in Nordheim, TX to the late Primitivo and Paulina Lopez Garza.  She was a retired beautician, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, great-great-great grandmother friend to many and a member of St. Cornelius Catholic.  She married Patricio Vela Gonzales on August 11, 1929 in Karnes City, TX.

She is preceded in death by her husband Patricio Vela Gonzales; parents, Primitivo and Paulina Lopez Garza; sons, Guadalupe Gonzales, Arturo Gonzales, Jose Avelardo Gonzales, sisters, Theresa Garza Martinez, Elida Cortez, Lucia Morin; brothers, Gregorio Garza, Jose Maria Garza, and Juan Guillermo Garza.

She is survived by her daughter, Odilia G. Gonzales of Karnes City, son, Ernesto Gonzales of Mesquite, TX; 15 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 87 great-great grandchildren and 7 great-great-great grandchildren.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Friday, February 22, 2019 at 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel in Kenedy, TX. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 10:00AM at the St. Cornelius Catholic Church with the Rev. Stanlisaw Marceniak officiating. Interment will be in the Mission Park Burial Cemetery in San Antonio, TX at 1:30 PM Saturday, February 23, 2019.

 

Laura Lee Hoff

Laura Lee Hoff, of Pettus, TX born on December 19, 1984 in Havre de Grace, Maryland to Oren D. Hoff Jr. and Lawana K. Potter Hoff passed away on February 10, 2019 at the age of 34. Laura loved horses and flowers. She is survived by her parents, Oren and Lawana K. Potter, of Pettus, TX; her son, Aiden Hoff, of Pettus, TX; her sister, Twila Crothers; her brother, Oren D. Hoff III and stepbrothers, Terry and Troy Keller. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 12:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 3:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Services to conclude in chapel.

Elaine Scarborough Person

Elaine Scarborough Person, 72, died on  January 28, 2019, in Victoria, Texas. She was born on July 25, 1946, in Kenedy,Texas, to the late Joyce Miller Scarborough and William Terry “Bill” Scarborough, Jr. She lived her early life in Pettus and Kenedy and attended Kenedy schools. She spent much time in her grandparents Grace Pierce Scarborough and Terry Scarborough’s household and was very close with her cousins Dan McLendon, Mary “Bitsey” McLendon, Terry McLendon, and Patricia Roberts [Hammack]. She was a graduate of Kenedy High School’s Class of 1964, where she played the flute in the marching band and was voted Most Beautiful. Soon after graduation, Elaine moved to Lake Jackson, Texas, to live with her mother and younger sisters Sheree and Marie to help care for them. She worked at Bridge Harbor Marina in Freeport for a period of time where she met her first husband, David Wayne Franklin. They married in 1965, and their son David was born in 1966. Following her divorce, Elaine moved to Houston, where she raised her son, and worked at A&E Products, Inc., where she served as secretary and as part of the sales staff. In 1973, she married James E. “Jimmy” Person. They made their home in Houston where their daughter Darla was born in 1983. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Elaine was involved in childcare and children’s education. She had her own childcare business, was a Mother’s Day Out teacher at College Park Baptist School, and after she and Jimmy divorced, moved to Kenedy, and worked as a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher in the Kenedy and Karnes City Independent School Districts. Elaine continued her career in care and education when she moved to Beeville in 2000, working as a program facilitator in the Coastal Plains Mental Health Mental Retardation Center for fourteen years. She worked for the Beeville Independent School District from 2014 to 2018 in their Kindergarten Special Needs program, retiring in August 2018.  After retirement, she moved to Victoria to live near her cousins Patricia Hammack and Terry McLendon. Although her retirement was brief, she was enjoying life, making new friends, and anticipating time for her hobbies. Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved son David Person. Survivors include daughter Darla Person Salas of Stockdale; sisters Sheree Scarborough of Roanoke, Virginia, Marie Scarborough of Pearland, Dorothy Scarborough of Austin, Shirley Scarborough of San Antonio, and Sandra Kasprzyk Yanta of Karnes City; brothers David Kasprzyk of Elgin, and Clem Kasprzyk of Kenedy; step-mother Florence Yosko Scarborough; two step-children Roy Person and Tammy Person; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Funeral Services will be held at Eckols Funeral Home in Kenedy on Saturday, February 9, at 1:00p.m. with Dr. Terry McLendon presiding. Visitation on Friday, February 8, from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Pallbearers will be Benjamin Scarborough Baird, Weston Yanta, Tate Kaspar, Dylan Eklund, Phil Miller, and Kevin Hammack. Elaine dearly loved children and animals. Memorials may be made to CASA for Children: Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (Golden Crescent Casa), the Dorothy H. O’Connor Pet Adoption Center in Victoria, or the COPD Foundation.

Liandro B. Diaz

Liandro B. Diaz, Age 71 of Kenedy, TX passed away January 22, 2019 in Kenedy, TX. Liandro was born on March 9, 1947 in Kenedy, TX to the late Ambrosio and Maria Barrientes Diaz. Liandro was a retired heavy equipment operator, served his country proudly in the US ARMY during the Vietnam War Era and was of the Catholic Faith.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ambrosio and Maria Barrientes Diaz; sister Leonor Diaz; brothers, Francisco Diaz, Felipe Diaz, Albert Diaz, Alcario Diaz, Daniel Diaz, Ambrosio Diaz and Robert Diaz.  He is survived by his daughters, Dominique Diaz of New York, Yvonne Diaz of Seguin, Victoria Diaz of Kenedy, Larissa (Kevin Vasquez) Diaz of Karnes City; son, Tank (Hallie) Diaz of San Antonio; sisters, Maria Diaz Herrera of Seguin, Hope Diaz of Port Lavaca; brothers, Juan Diaz of Kenedy, Samuel Diaz of San Antonio, Alex Diaz of Missouri; grandchildren, Matty Soliz, Layla Hernandez, Avery Blackmon, Addilyn Diaz, Joseph Torres, and Elijah Vasquez.  A Holy Rosary will be recited Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.
