Beatrice “Bea” Zepeda Tijerina

Beatrice “Bea” Z. Tijerina, formerly of Kenedy, TX was born on July 29, 1944 in Three Rivers, Texas to Seledonio Zepeda Sr. and Anita Ramirez Zepeda passed away surrounded by family on January 30, 2020 at the age of 75 at her residence in San Antonio. Bea was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law: Josefina Perez, her son: Ruben A. Tijerina Jr., her brother: Seledonio “Shorty” Zepeda Jr.; and her sister: Esperanza “Hope” Zepeda Pinon. Survivors include her husband: Ruben P. Tijerina, Sr., her daughter: Missy (Tom) Messmer of Fort Mojave, AZ; sons: Robert A. (Suzette) Tijerina of San Antonio, TX and Randy A. Tijerina of San Antonio,TX; sisters and brothers: Connie (Ruben) Olivio of Alice, TX, Rose “Bambi” (Roger) Garza of Kingsville, TX and Sally Moncevais of Alice,TX, Felix “Boy” R. (Cookie) Zepeda of Alice, TX, Robert “Bobby” (Gloria) Zepeda of Kenedy,TX, Ralph (Ginny) Zepeda, Rey (Karen) Zepeda of Alice,TX, Michael J. (Rhonda) Zepeda, of San Antonio,TX, Stephen Zepeda of San Antonio, TX and William(Jennifer) Zepeda of San Antonio,TX; 9 Grandchildren to include: Olivia I. Tijerina, Robert “Andres” Tijerina II, J. M. Aurora Garcia Gonzales

Aurora Garcia Gonzales, born February 24, 1920 in Kenedy, Texas to Victor Garcia and Melquiades Longoria Garcia passed away on January 26, 2020 at the age of 99. Mrs. Gonzales was a prayer warrior and a member of the Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She is preceded in by her husband: Enrique Gonzales. She is survived by her children: Irma (Steven) Foley of San Antonio, Yolanda (Amador) Gonzales Chapa of Pettus, Rick (Nelda) Gonzales of Kenedy, Oscar ( friend, Phyllis) Gonzales of Kenedy, and Victor (Ida) Gonzales, of Kenedy, several grandchildren, great grandchildren; and other relatives. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Luisa Espinoza Ureste

Luisa Espinoza Ureste, of Karnes City, TX born on March 6, 1927 in Whitsett, TX to Francisco Delgado Espinoza and Josefa Onofre Espinoza passed away on January 14, 2020 at the age of 92 in Kenedy, TX. Luisa was preceded in death by her husband, Adelaido in 1988 her daughter, Abelia Nancy Barrientes, son, Rodolfo Ureste and sister, Gloria and brother, Salvador. She is survived by her children: Angelita Ureste Gutierrez of Cypress,TX, Josie U. Barrientez of Humble,TX, Celia U. Saenz of Karnes City,TX, Mary U. (Raymond) Booth, of Spicewood,TX, Adelaido Anthony(Hilnar) Ureste of San Antonio, TX. Gloria Esther Ureste of Houston, TX and Robert Dale (Sonia) Ureste of San Antonio; 20 grandchildren; one niece and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Hilario Reyna Flores

Hilario Reyna Flores, Age 86 of Kenedy, TX passed away on January 9, 2020 in San Antonio, TX. Hilario was born on March 19, 1933 in Runge, TX to the late Santos and Virginia Reyna Flores.  He was a self-employed lawn care technician; served his country proudly in the United States ARMY and was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.  He is preceded in death by his parents Santos and Virginia Reyna Flores; sister, Guadalupe Ruiz; brothers, Jose Flores and Henry Flores.  He is survived by his daughters, Margarita Cavazos and husband Moises of Corpus Christi, Guadalupe Salazar and husband Danny of San Antonio; grandchildren, Jaime Cuevas, Alex Cuevas, Celia Salazar, Davalyn Salazar, Daniel Salazar, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Aiden Cuevas, Laura Cuevas, Lydia Cuevas and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  A Holy Rosary will be recited Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 13, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Norbert Hermann officiating.  Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.

Infant Stillborn, Aliera Leticia Alvarez, was born and went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2020 .  She is the infant daughter to Rogelio Roy Alvarez Jr. and Elizabeth Diaz. Infant Aliera is survived by her parents and brothers: Bryan Salazar, John Salazar, Jozev Alvarez and Leviathan Alvarez. Marjorie Fayrene Overby Ellison Knight

Marjorie Fayrene Overby Ellison Knight, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020 in Hallettsville, TX at 97 years of age. She was born April 19, 1922 in the Overby Community near Kenedy,TX to Robert Overby and Oda Vickery Overby, the oldest of seven siblings. Marjorie was first married to L. G. Ellison before she married Holden L. Knight of Runge,TX. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Shera Ellison Horne (Sam) of Bandera, Patsy Knight Lange (Ed) of San Antonio, and Marion Gayle Knight (Gloria) of Dale, TX and by two of her sisters, Texie B Overby Odom (Joe,deceased) of Kingsville and Loretta Overby Young (Don, deceased) of Stockdale. Eight grandchildren are Marla Nixon, Keith Horne, Shawn Horne, Shannon Saenz, Darrell Knight, Kevin Knight, Tammy Knief, and Jerrod Knight, with seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Marjorie lived most of her life in Kenedy, where she was an active member of the First Baptist Church. Starting with caring for babies in the nursery, she advanced to teach nearly every level of Sunday School and bible study groups, including her own peer group, the Fellowship Class, as they aged through many years. She was also involved with WMU activities of the Church. It was quite ordinary to have a pastor of the church on his rounds through the town to stop by to say hello to Marjorie and have a refreshing glass of tea. The same was true for her many friends and other townspeople, as well as all of her extended family, because they knew Marjorie would invite them in for a chat and refreshments, no matter how busy she might be. She delighted in homemaking and church activities and also worked at various businesses in Kenedy through the years. Marjorie was preceded in death by both her parents, Rob and Oda Overby, her husband, Holden L. Knight, and sibling Quentin Dee (infant), Bobby (infant), Dennis Carrol Overby (Marcelene), Neva Jean Overby Jackson (Ray, deceased), Beatrice Fern Overby Brockman (Cliff, deceased), and Kenneth Oliver Overby (Doris). In her later years, Marjorie enjoyed living in Victoria for almost twelve years. She then moved to Houston to live with her grandson, Darrell Knight, along with Rodney Radford and young Braydon Radford who delighted her in her old age. At a very advanced age, she moved to a nursing home in Hallettsville, TX. May she now rest in peace in her new heavenly home. Visitation begins at 1:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel with Funeral Services beginning at 2:00p.m at Eckols Chapel with Rev. Aaron Corporon officiating. Interment to follow in Kenedy Cemetery. Pallbearers: Darrell Knight, Rodney Radford, Kevin Knight, Jerrod Knight, Timothy Jurek, Mike Saenz. Honorary Pallbearer: Brayden M. Radford.

Robert Franklin Morgan

Robert Franklin Morgan of Kenedy,TX was  born November 23, 1936 in Choate, Texas to Charles Zelman Morgan and Ollie Marie Hunt passed away on January 6, 2020 at the age of 83. Mr. Morgan was a U.S.A.F. veteran, photographer, and musician. He is preceded in death by his wife: Theresa, his sister: Elayne; and son: Andy.  He is survived by his daughter:Rebecca “Becky” L. Frazier and her husband Terry, of Kenedy,TX; sons: Everett (Krista) Morgan of Lavernia,TX and Marshall (Terri) Morgan, of Kingsland,TX; brother: Charles Coleman Morgan of San Antonio,TX; 9 grandchildren: Matthew Frazier, Jordan Morgan, Maxwell Morgan, Jacob Frazier, Jeremy Morgan, Asher Morgan, Emilee Morgan, Jude Morgan and Gifton Morgan; 2 great grandchildren: Liam Frazier and Tyler Frazier; niece, Bhre Cairo; daughter-in-law: Sarah Simmons and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 6:oop.m. to 8:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Larry Eugene Pullin

Larry Eugene Pullin, Age 79 of Gonzales, TX passed away on Dec. 24, 2019 in Victoria, TX. Larry was born to the late Curtis and Johnnie Mae Boyd Pullin in Corpus Christi, TX on July 31, 1940.  He was a retired Oilfield Tool Pusher and of the Protestant Faith.   He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Johnnie Mae Boyd Pullin.  He is survived by his sister Carolyn Perry of Gonzales; brothers, Lance Pullin of Gonzales and Shane Pullin of Weesatche; stepchildren Kenny Hittle of Mississippi and Bobby Hittle of Houston and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  Visitation will be held at the Graveside Monday, December 30, 2019 in the Choate Cemetery at 1PM to 2PM with Services at 2PM with the Rev. Ricky Bagwell officiating. Interment will be held in the Choate Cemetery.

Thomas A. Madsen

Thomas Arthur Madsen, Age 70 of Kenedy, TX passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in Kenedy, TX. Thomas was born on August 15, 1949 in Kenedy, TX to the late Arthur Eugene and Laura Bernice Homeyer Madsen. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kenedy. Tom always wanted to be a Cowboy. He started working sale barns, breaking horses and chasing cattle through the South Texas brush country.  With these skills he moved to Bandera for 20 years where he also became part of the local entertainment, wrangler, and rodeo entry and pickup man. Tom was a cowboy all his life.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Eugene and Laura Bernice Homeyer Madsen.  He is survived by his sons, Clint Madsen of Robstown, TX, Travis J. Madsen of Kenedy, TX; granddaughter, Cienna Madsen ; a sister, Phyllis Ann Stanley of Kenedy; nephew, Carl J. (Mary) Stanley of Moore, OK and numerous cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at a date to be determined.

Florence Bernadette Scarborough

Florence Bernadette Scarborough was one of three children born to the late Rosie and Florian Yosko. She was born on March 23, 1929 in Runge, Texas. She passed away in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by her daughters and loved ones on December 31, 2019 at the age of 90. She grew up in Karnes City, Texas while spending the majority of her adult life in Kenedy, Texas with William T. Scarborough, Jr. raising their combined families. Florence and Bill were married for 44 years. She had five children, three stepchildren, eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was a full-time housewife while also serving as a caretaker for elderly neighbors and babysitting several grandchildren until their school age. She loved cooking, gardening, sewing, hunting, fishing and camping with her family, friend and many grandchildren. She was always very involved with her children’s school activities, sewing uniforms, baking for fundraisers and serving on band clubs and the Lions Booster Club. She hosted Dominoes “42” Clubs for both Woman’s and Couple’s at her home, along with Bunco Club. She loved to dance. Florence and Bill cooked and served monthly steak dinners at the Kenedy VFW for years and danced until closing by music from a juke box. Fritz danced (jitterbugged) and Florence (held on) for many a Friday night at Jerry B’s. She also donated many hours of volunteering and cooking, baking and organizing for celebrations at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenedy, including providing fresh baked communal bread for Sunday Services. She was preceded in death by her sister Gladys Ebrom, husband William Terry Scarborough Jr., beloved companion of Fritz Foster, son David Kasprzyk, and step daughter Elaine Scarborough Person. She is survived by her brother Manuel Yosko and wife Mary Ann of Seguin, son Clem Kasprzyk, Jr. and wife Lajuana of Kenedy, daughters Sandra Yanta of Karnes City and David Christian of Kenedy, Dorothy Scarborough and Matthew Young of Austin, Shirley Scarborough and Stephen Halbert of San Antonio, daughter-in-law Rebecca Kasprzyk of Elgin, stepdaughters Sherree Scarborough of Roanoke, Virginia and Marie Scarborough of Pearland, grandchildren Chris Kasprzyk, Stacey Kasprzyk Darby, Clint Kasprzyk, Carey Kasprzyk Baros, Clay Kasprzyk, Weston Yanta, Cassie Heffernan Dixon, Allie Heffernan, Tisha Kaspar Chitta, Tate Kaspar, Dylan Eklund, step granddaughter Shanna Osburn Wadsworth , three nephews, one niece, a few treasured Ex son-laws and a loved Ex daughter-in-law. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11:00a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with interment following in Kenedy Cemetery. Pallbearers: Chris Kasprzyk, Clint Kasprzyk, Clay Kasprzyk, Tate Kaspar, Dylan Eklund and Weston Yanta.
