CS1 Lewis Gyles Collins, USN, Retired

Lewis Collins Obit PhotoCS1 Lewis Gyles Collins, USN, retired, age 82 of Kenedy, TX., passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015, in New Braunfels, TX. Lewis was born on July 13, 1933, in Bowman South Carolina to the late Alfred Leroy and Lillie Mae Stroman Collins. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a CS1-Culinary Specialist, after 21 years of proudly serving his country. During his enlistment, Lewis served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, received numerous medals, awards, and honors, along with traveling to over 25 countries and living in over 20 states. Lewis also retired as Chief Dietician from Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital in Kenedy, TX. after 23 years of employment.  On July 23, 1974, he married the love of his life, Maria Trinidad Alvear, in Kenedy, TX. Lewis was a faithful and devout member of First Baptist Church, Kenedy for many years. He was a caring, gentle, and honest man who was loved by many and he cherished his family above all, preceded only by God.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Leroy and Lillie Mae Stroman Collins; sister, Mrs. Donald Greene (Norine); brothers, Shelby and Maxcie Collins and grandsons, Guadalupe Rodriguez and Thomas Ray (Tray) Vickery III.

He is survived by his loving wife Maria Trinidad Collins of Kenedy; daughters, Sally Dovalina of Gonzales, Rosemary Vickery and husband Tommy of Kenedy, Sarah Booker and husband Michael of Floresville; sons, Roger Dovalina and wife Belinda of Helotes, John Dovalina and wife Rachel of Austin; sister, Mrs. Farris Brill (Faye) of South Carolina; brothers, A.L. Collins of South Carolina, Woodrow Collins of South Carolina; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Family Visitation will be Tuesday, October 13, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Kenedy, with Pastor Matt Singleton officiating. Interment will follow at the Kenedy Cemetery, Kenedy, TX.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Roger Dovalina, John Dovalina, Tommy Vickery, Michael Booker, Travis Vickery, and Edward Dovalina.

Honorary Pallbearers are Nicholas Dovalina, Collin Booker, Deacon Booker, Elijah Booker, Giovanni Reyna, and Vicente Reyna.

Harry Alexander Reid, Jr.

Harry Reid Obit PicHarry Alexander Reid, Jr. was born on September 4, 1922 in Magnolia, Arkansas to Harry A. Reid Sr. and Madge Davies Reid. His mother died in childbirth and he was raised with the help of his grandparents, Andrew Alexander Reid I and Mary Bird Reid and his aunt and uncle, Ruth and John Warnock and his cousin Mary Ann. Mary Ann was like a sister and Harry remained close to her and her family, husband Billy Morgan and son’s John and Steve Morgan. Harry’s dad remarried in time and he became very close to his stepmother Hazel.

Harry served in the United States Army, 138th Ordinance Heavy Maintenance Company, enlisting October 24, 1945. Harry married Manda B Foster on January 15, 1949. He was well known and respected throughout South Texas having owned and operated the Kenedy Feed Store.

Harry is survived by his wife, Manda B. Reid, a daughter Stephanie Hazel and husband Dale Luke Sr. of Spring, TX and son, Andrew Alexander Reid II and wife Shirley of San Antonio, TX. His grandchildren are Amanda Luke, Alexander Reid and Harrison Reid. His step grandchildren are Amy Moreno and Dale Luke Jr. and step great grandchild Jackson Moreno.

Harry became a Christian at an early age and was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Magnolia, Arkansas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kenedy, Texas.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10 at Eckols Funeral Home at 10 am. A viewing will be held at Eckols on Friday, October 9 from 6 – 8 pm.

Rev. George DeLosSantos

Rev. Geroge DeLosSantosRev. George DeLosSantos, age 59 of San Antonio, TX formerly of Kenedy, TX passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on August 17, 1956 in Karnes County, TX to the late Ruben and Olivia Rodriquez DeLosSantos. He was the Pastor at Gethsemane Ministries Church in San Antonio, TX, a loving Father, Grandfather and friend to many.

He is preceded in death by his wife Lydia DeLosSantos, parents, Ruben and Olivia DeLosSantos and a brother Ruben DeLosSantos, Jr.

He is survived by his sons, Pastor Anthony DeLosSantos and wife Lisa of Kenedy, Josh DeLosSantos and wife Nelda of Kenedy, Pastor Isaac DeLosSantos of Beeville; sister Olivia Almeida of San Antonio; brothers, Rev. Manuel (Sylvia) DeLosSantos of Karnes City, Escillas (JoAnn) DeLosSantos of Choate, Sammy DeLosSantos of Karnes City, Danny DeLosSantos of San Antonio, Arturo (Lucy) DeLosSantos of San Antonio, Lee (Lorena) De Los Santos of San Antonio, Alex (Lucia) DeLosSantos of San Antonio and 6 Grandchildren.

Family Visitation will be Tues. Oct. 6, 2015 from 1PM to 5PM with a Prayer Service beginning at 7PM at Kingsway Church in Beeville, TX. Funeral Services will be held Wed. Oct 7, 2015 at 10AM at Kingsway Church in Beeville, TX. Interment will follow at the Kenedy Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Hernandez, Nathaniel DeLosSantos, Lee DeLosSantos, Michael Escamilla, Gabriel DeLosSantos, and Bobby Charles.

Roy Franklin Harris

Roy F. Harris 3Roy Franklin Harris, Age 75 of Kenedy, TX passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015 in Kenedy, TX. Roy was born on July 23, 1940 in Cuero, TX to the late Lemmie B. and Annie Pearl Paschall Harris. Roy retired as a firefighter from Chase Field in Beeville, TX after 25 years of service and was an avid outdoorsman and cattle rancher in his later days. He was also a faithful and devout member of The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenedy. On December 26, 1967 he married Marigene Kenne in Bay City, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lemmie B. and Annie Pearl Paschall Harris and sisters, Martha Ann Harris and Iola Tampke.

He is survived by his loving wife Marigene Kenne Harris of Kenedy; son, Roy Eugene Harris and wife Lori of Dallas, TX; daughter, Amy Harris Lee and Husband Travis of Kenedy, TX; grandchildren, Amanda Quintanilla, Kyle Vice, Ryon Gene Harris, and Troy Clayton Lee.

Family Visitation be Sunday, September 6, 2015 from 6PM to 8PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held Monday, September 7, 2015 at 10AM at The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wally Schievelbein officiating. Interment will be in the Glendale Cemetery in Goliad, TX at 2PM.

JP Ivey

JP IVEYJP Ivey age 82 of Mineral, died July 30th. in Beeville. He was born in Bell County, TX to Louis & Nedro Harmon Ivey. He is survived by his wife Virginia Hurst Ivey who he married Nov. 21, 1952 in Woodsboro. JP was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Sons Jim (Becky) Ivey of Fairoaks, TX, Terry (Jody) Ivey of Mason County, David (Linda) Ivey of Mineral, Sister Kay Smith of Salado, Brother Louis Ivey of Salado. Grandchildren Heather, Hailey, Justin, Tara, Lacey, Cheyenne, Candace, Kathlene, & Kent. Great Grandchildren Kinsley, Hudson, Tristen, Ryan, Christian, Logan, Nolan, Nomar, Brandon, Blake, Makayla, Cody, Garrett, Luna Mae, & Mauderick. He is preceded in death by his parents & brothers Thomas Ivey and Howard Harmon.

Family Visitaition was held Friday, July 31, 2015 from 7PM to 9PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, August 1 at 11 AM in the Eckols Chapel with Rev. Monte Nolen officiating.

Interment followed  in the  Mineral Cemetery.

Jesus G. Salinas

JGSalinas Candle PicJesus G. Salinas, Age 95 of Rio Grande City, formerly of Kenedy, TX passed away on August 22, 2015 in Rio Grande City,TX. He was born on Dec. 18, 1919 in Cerralvo Nuevo Leon Mexico to the late Narciso and Regina Gonzalez Salinas. Jesus was an entrepreneur and of the Catholic Faith.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Anita Espiricueta Salinas; parents, Narciso and Regina Gonzalez Salinas; sisters, Ofelia Salinas Campos, Manuela Salinas Gonzalez, Eva Gonzalez Salinas; brothers, Carlos Salinas, Narciso Salinas, Socorro Salinas, Domingo Salinas, Jose Salinas, Adan Salinas, Ramon Salinas, 1 grandchild, 1 great-grandchild and 1 great-great grandchild.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Salinas and husband Reynaldo Perez, Jr of Rio Grande City, TX; son, Johnny Salinas and wife Felicita of Victoria, TX; 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Mon. Aug. 24, 2015 at 7PM in The Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held Tues. August 25, 2015 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Norbert Hermann officiating. Interment will follow in the Loma Alta Cemetery.

Lori Kay Buegeler

lori picOur precious Lori Kay Buegeler Quillon gained her Heavenly Angel wings on August 13, 2015 in Kenedy at the age of 49 years old. Lori was born in Kenedy, Texas on August 16, 1965. She graduated from Kenedy High School in May 1983. In March 1988, Lori decided to fulfill her dream of becoming a Nurse. She attended San Antonio College’s Nursing Program and graduated with honors. She worked at Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital as a night surgical floor nurse and the nurse and social worker for the Titanium Rib Project for over 25 years. She received the Santa Rosa’s Daisy Award and many other awards with her work on the project. Many children are alive today because of the work of the doctors and Lori’s assistance. Lori married the love of her life, Gil DeLuna Quillon, March 22, 2009, on center court before a Spurs Game. Lori was a diehard Spurs fan. She held Spurs season tickets for several years and even has a Spurs tattoo on her ankle. She moved from Marion, Texas to Kenedy to start a new job in April 2015 working as a Nurse Supervisor at the John Connelly Unit. Lori was preceded in death by her father, Leslie E. Buegeler; mother, Dolores Buegeler Syring; step-father, Marcus (Mike) Syring; brother-in-law, Thomas (Tom) Roberts; and her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She is survived by her sister and best friend, Karen Buegeler Roberts Walston and husband, Dennis; brother, Michael Buegeler and wife Debra; nephew, Jason Roberts; step-daughter, Andree Macias, husband, Mike; step-granddaughter, Nadia and step-grandson, Miguel; step-brothers, Marcus (Butch) Syring, wife, Bernice; James (Jim) Syring, wife, Jeane; Dr. Joseph (Jody) Syring, wife, Elizabeth; Harold Syring, wife, Paula; step-sisters, Maxine George, husband, Z.T. (Butch); Patricia (Trish) Hingst, husband, Harry; Deborah (Debbie) Reyes, husband, William (Bill) and cousin, Randy Boysen, wife, Cyndi, and their daughter, Candice. She had many loving nieces, nephews, and “adopted” patients, affectionately named her Riblet children. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 P.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wally Schievelbein officiating. Interment will follow in the Elim Lutheran Church Cemetery with Zack George, Randy Boysen, William Reyes II, Billy Groff, Hector Caballero, Buster Pawelek, Vicente Arenas, Stephen Habib, and Randy Llanis serving as pallbearers. Lori’s Kenedy High classmates of 1983 serving as honorary pallbearers.

 

 

Bailey Ray Atkinson

Bailey Ray AtkinsonBailey Ray Atkinson age 69 of Kenedy passed away July 23, 2015.  Bailey was born in Kenedy Oct. 9, 1945 to Bailey F. & Sybil Radicke Atkinson.  Bailey worked as a Lab tech for Ashland for 45 years, and was a rancher.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church.Bailey is survived by his Mother Sybil Atkinson, wife Norma Remmers Atkinson of Kenedy, daughters Vicki (Sean) Noble of San Marcos, CA, Lisa (Tom) Devine of Stafford, VA, son Scott (Lisa) Atkinson of Kenedy, Sisters Beverly Castle of San Antonio, Becky Spahn of Karnes City, Brenda Wymer of San Antonio, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his father, sister Candace Novak, brother Jimmy Atkinson, and great-grandson J.D. Ferron.  A visitation will be held Sunday, July 26th. From 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Eckols Chapel.  Funeral services will be held Monday July 27th. At 10:30 AM at the Eckols Chapel with T.J. Burris officiating.  Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Nurses in Touch, South Texas Children Home, or to the First Baptist Church in Kenedy.

Ruben Paul Oehlke

Ruben Oehlke Obit PicRuben Paul Oehlke, 84 of Kenedy, TX passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at his home in Kenedy.  He was born on May 14, 1931 in Goliad County, TX to the late Gus and Ella Goehring Oehlke.  He married Vernell Joyce Volkmer on December 30, 1955 in Schroeder, TX.  He held various positions while working for United Gas Pipeline Co. before retiring after 39 years of service. After retiring he enjoyed his days working on his ranch and tending to his cattle.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Darwin Oehlke, sister-in-law, Laverda Oehlke and brother-in-law, William Volkmer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Vernell Oehlke; daughters, Glenda Arnold (Jeffrey) of Sugar Land, Shirley Bleidt (Barry) of Tamarac, Florida and son, Vernon Oehlke (Tammy) of La Grange; grandchildren, Brooke Oehlke (Chris Pochron), Ryan Ermis (Sarah), Cody Arnold, Justin Oehlke (Amber), Courtney Arnold, Jackie Gilley (Tommy) and Brittany Bleidt; great-granddaughters Emma Bleidt and Carlie Pochron; brothers, Alton Oehlke (Sarah), Gaylon Oehlke (Kathy) and a sister-in-law Barbara Volkmer.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Ermis, Cody Arnold, Justin Oehlke, Chris Pochron, Tommy Gilley, Harlan Oehlke, Stanley Oehlke, Brandon Oehlke and Brad Volkmer.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Oscar Briones, Comfort Keepers, Accolade Hospice and special friend and honorary pallbearer, Dr. Larry Riedel.

William Edward “Bill” Allen

William Edward “Bill” Allen, 72 of Pawnee, TX and Aransas Pass, TX passed away Saturday, July 10, 2015 in Corpus Christi, TX.  Bill was born on March 27, 1943 in Corpus Christi to the late Ned M. and Faye McCarn Allen.  On October 15, 1965 he married the love of his life Nancy Pogue in the Church of Christ of Aransas Pass, TX.  Upon receiving his Bachelors of Science degree in Electronics Technology from Del Mar Tech in 1966 he was offered a position as a geophysicist for the Humble Oil & Ref. Co.  The pay rate of $550.00 a month was more enticing to the young couple than the title.  Bill traveled worldwide working for Exxon for 25 years, and later worked for Vanco Exploration and TGS Geophysical from  which he retired and became an independent contractor once again working for Exxon. In 2005 Bill retired to the Allen Family Ranch in Pawnee.  He was a lifetime member of the NRA, a member of the Texas State Rifle Association, a USO South Texas Ambassador, an Honorary Admiral of the US Navy under Governor  George W. Bush, member of the Society of Exploration of Geophysicist and most recently Secretary for the Bee County Appraisal Review Committee and the Secretary and Historian for the Pawnee Cemetery Association.   He has left a circle of friends around the world in the oil and gas industry and the U. S. Military. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ned. M and Faye McCarn Allen and his in-laws Herbert “Red” and Luna May Duckworth Pogue.

He is survived by his loving wife Nancy Pogue Allen;  daughter, Renee Allen Powell;  son,  Jeffrey Edward Allen and wife Nancy;  sister, Patricia Allen; grandchildren, Ariane Powell, Taylor Allen, Shelby Allen, Mackenzie Allen, and Riley Allen.

Family Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 5PM to 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.  Services will be Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 10AM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel in Kenedy and a later Service will be held Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 4PM at the Church of Christ in Aransas Pass, TX.  Interment will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery in Aransas Pass, TX.
