Concha Concepcion Ramirez

Concha Concepcion Ramirez, a longtime resident of Houston, Texas passed away, Thursday, August 16, 2012 in Houston, Texas at the age of 84 years and 12 days.

Concha was born, August 4, 1928, in Kenedy, Texas, the daughter of, Juan Diaz and Concepcion Garcia Diaz. She married, Bartolo P. Ramirez and was a loving mother and wife.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband; her parents; 1 daughter; 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Concha is survived by her 8 daughters and 4 sons.

Visitation was held, Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas. Funeral mass was celebrated at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 20, 2012, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Kenedy, with Rev. Norbert Herman officiating. Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Alfonso “Poncho” V. Puente

Alfonso “Poncho” V. Puente, a lifelong resident of Karnes City, Texas, entered eternal rest, Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 4:35 P.M., at Methodist Main Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 30 days.

Poncho was born, April 17, 1936, in Kenedy, Texas, the son of Arnulfo C. Puente and Saragosa Vasquez Puente. Poncho was retired with the City of Karnes City as a Water Meter Reader.  He was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and was active in the VFW Post 8572.

Poncho is survived by his sisters, Maria Elizondo, Fannie Lopez and Tila Solis; and his brothers, Martin Puente and Gilbert Puente. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers Guadalupe, Valentin and John Puente.

Visitation was held, Sunday, August 19, 2012, beginning at 3:00 P.M., at Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas, and a rosary was recited Sunday at 7:00 P.M. Funeral mass was celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 20, 2012, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Kenedy, with Rev. Norbert Herman officiating. Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were, Rick Puente, Martin Puente, Jr., Michael Solis, John Puente, Jr., Danny Puente and Donald Puente.

Juan Olivares Cruz

Juan Olivares Cruz, a lifelong resident of Kenedy, Texas, passed away, Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 7:40 P.M., at Methodist Main Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of, 83 years 6 months and 15 days.

Juan was born, January 27, 1929, in Karnes County, Texas, the son of, Pablo Cruz and Antonia Olivares Cruz. He attended school in Kenedy and went on to become a truck driver with Buckalew Trucking Company. He married Matilda Castillo and together they had two children. Mr. Cruz was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kenedy, Texas.

Juan is survived by his daughter, Linda Cruz-Torres and husband, Jesse of San Antonio, Texas and his son, Juan Cruz, Jr., of Kenedy, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife; his sister, Elisa Reyna and his brothers, Luis, Pablo, Hilario, Genaro and Santos Cruz.

Visitation was held, Wednesday, August 15, 2012 and a rosary was recited at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas. Funeral mass was celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 16, 2012, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Kenedy, Texas. Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Kenedy, Texas. Serving as pallbearers were, Danny Reyna, Rocky Reyna, Oscar Reyna, Jr., Michael Reyna, Lonnie Saenz and Hank Holton. Serving as an honorary pallbearer was, Joe Pigfordo.

Margaret “Mickey” Louise Kolinek

Margaret “Mickey” Louise Kolinek, a longtime resident of Kenedy, Texas, entered eternal rest, Friday, August 10, 2012, at 9:00 P.M., at the John Paul II Nursing Home in Kenedy, at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 11 days.

Mickey was born December 9, 1924, in Runge, Texas, the daughter of Roy Cloud and Ninnie Stockton. On October 6, 1961, Mickey married Adolph Kolinek, Jr., in Kenedy, Texas.

Mickey is survived by her husband, Adolph Kolinek, Jr., of Kenedy, Texas; her children; Judy Newman and husband Jimmy of Leesville, Texas; Neva Schmidt and husband Terry of Kenedy, Texas and David Theuret of Kenedy, Texas; her nine grandchildren, Bobby Newman and wife Traci; Shelia Stone and husband Tony; Wesley Theuret and wife Lisa; Walker and wife Roxanne; Kolin Schmidt; Carl Schmidt; Teryn Schmidt; Kerry Schmidt and Tina Theuret; her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jordan, Ashton, Dustin, Colby, Lane, Sarah, Devyn, Wes, Emmersyn, Derrick and Darren. Ms. Kolinek is preceded in death by her parents, her 13 brothers and sisters and her 1 grandson, Scotty Newman.

Visitation was held, Tuesday, August 14, 2012, from 7:00-9:00 P.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas. Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 15, 2012, in the Eckols Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Newman officiating. Interment followed in the Kenedy Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were, Mickey’s grandsons; Bobby Newman, Wesley Theuret, Walker Theuret, Carl Schmidt and Kolin Schmidt and Lane Newman. Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandsons; Dustin and Colby.

Frances Retzloff Berger

Frances Retzloff Berger, a longtime resident of Beeville, Texas entered, Heaven, Thursday, August 9, 2012, at 3:20 P.M., at Wooldridge Place Nursing Center in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 6 days.

Frances was born, February 3, 1941 in Lenz, Texas, the daughter of Edmund Retzloff and Amanda Magel Retzloff. She was very active in her community and served as President and was a Lifetime Member of the South Texas V.F.W. Auxiliary and the American Legion. Frances was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Beeville.

Frances is survived by her step-son, Thomas Berger and wife Janice of Pipe Creek, Texas; her nieces, Karen Walston and husband Dennis of Sandia, Texas and Lori Beugeler and husband Gilberto Quillon of Converse, Texas and her nephew, Michael Beugeler of Kenedy, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray Berger and her sister, Dolores Syring.

Visitation was held, Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas. Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 13, 2012, in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Conklin, officiating. Interment followed in the Kenedy Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were, Michael Beugeler, Dennis Walston, Gilberto Quillon, Max Garza, Bill Reyes and Robert Huth.

Joyce Goff Lyons

Kathryn Joyce Goff Lyons, passed away, Thursday, August 9, 2012, at 4:10 A.M., in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 20 days.

Joyce was born, August 20, 1928, in Kenedy, Texas, the daughter of Percy Reidel “Potts” Goff, Jr., and Hattie Martin. Joyce married Albert D. Lyons, Jr., of Runge, Texas, on December 22, 1946, in Kenedy, Texas. Albert preceded Joyce in death on August 22, 2000. Joyce loved the Lord and was a devout Christian; she also shared that love with her family and her friends. Joyce was a World Traveler, a bridge player and she was involved in her community and participated in charity activities. She was a member of the Pink Ladies, the Runge Birthday Club and the Garden Club.

Joyce is survived by her children; Nancy Harvey and husband Robert of Lufkin, Texas and Albert Lyons of Dallas, Texas; her three grandchildren, Robert Nathaniel “Nathan” Harvey and wife Amanda, Matthew Alexander and wife Sharon and Dustin Lyons; her three great-grandchildren, Alexandria Kathryn, Andrew Robert and Connor Nathaniel and her brothers, Robert Goff and Glyn Goff and wife Myra Lee. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Marilyn Thompson and her brother, Martin Goff.

Visitation was held from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Monday, August 13, 2012, in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas. Funeral services were held, Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at 10:00 A.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Martin L. Newmann, officiating. Interment followed in the Kenedy Cemetery. Ascension “Connie” Reyna

Ascension “Connie” Reyna, of Runge, Texas, passed away, Friday, July 27, 2012 at 12:31 A.M., at the age of 52 years, 2 months and 1 day, at Methodist Main Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Connie was born, May 26, 1960 in Jonah, Texas, the daughter of Faustino Zapata and Manuela Garcia Zapata. On April 25, 1981, Connie married her husband, Rogelio Reyna, Sr., in Kenedy, Texas. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and worked at the John Paul II Nursing Home in Kenedy.

Connie is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Rogelio Reyna, Sr.; her son and daughter-in-law, Rogelio and Terri Renya, Jr.; her sisters, Alberta Moreno, Alicia Lazano and Josephine Donnell; her brothers, Juan and Domingo Zapata. Mrs. Reyna is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Maria Urruthia and her brothers, Eisa and Jacinto Zapata.

A rosary was recited, Sunday, July, 29, 2012 at 7:00 P.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas. Funeral mass was celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 30, 2012, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kenedy. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were, Ramon Reyna, Jr., Roland Reyna, Brandon Reyna, Frankie Reyna, Joe Mendiola, Jr. and Walker Theuret. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Eddie Urruthia, Jessie Urruthia and Michael Zapata.

 

Jose Luis “Joe” Cruz

Jose Luis “Joe” Cruz, a resident of Pawnee, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home, Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 7:20 P.M., at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 17 days.

Joe was born, March 5, 1949 in Pawnee, Texas, the son of Luis Cruz and Jovita Diaz Cruz. He graduated high school and then began his life as a cowboy and rancher.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Elvira Gonzales Cruz; his sons, Amado Cruz and wife Stacy, Arturo Cruz and wife Rosemary, Jose Cruz, Ramon Reyna and wife Jennifer and Roland Reyna and wife Andrea; his daughter Roxanne Theuret and husband Walker; his sisters, Linda Chapa and husband Carlo, Mary Garza and husband Henry, Dora Gonzales and husband Domingo, Amalia Montemayor and husband Richard and Ofelia Cruz; his brother, Genaro Cruz; and his beloved 11 grandchildren. Mr. Cruz is preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Jovita Cruz.

Visitation began, Tuesday, July 24, 2012, and a rosary was recited, Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 7:30 P.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass was celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kenedy, officiated by Rev. Norbert Herman. Interment followed in the Loma Alta Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were, Carlos Gonzales, Calvin Blaschke, Corky Franke, Wallon Rouse, Cecil Johnson, Jr. and Robert Cruz, Jr.

Erma Hernandez Vera

Erma Hernandez Vera, a lifelong resident of Kenedy, Texas, entered enteral rest, Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 10:35 P.M., at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 48 years, 6 months and 20 days.

Erma was born, December 25, 1963 in Karnes City, Texas, the daughter of Martin Hernandez and Josephina Rodriguez Hernandez. Erma was employed at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Kenedy where she worked in the Deli.

Erma is survived by her beloved husband, Martin Vera; her son, Fidencio Vera; “Mom” Guadalupe and Juan Reyna; her sisters, Mary Tovar, Jessica Reyna, April Reyna, Janie Reyna and Elizabeth Reyna and numerous extended family members. Erma is preceded in death by her parents.

A rosary was recited, Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 7:00 P.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. It was Erma’s wish to be cremated.
