Carlos Garza

Carlos Garza, a lifelong resident of Kenedy, Texas, entered eternal rest Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Citizen’s Medical Center in Victoria, Texas at the age of 54 years, 9 months and 19 days.

Carlos was born in Karnes City, Texas on November 6, 1958, the son of Isaias Garza and Noemi Ruiz Garza.  Carlos was both a rancher and a cowboy for many years and worked at the Karnes County Livestock Exchange. Mr. Garza was of the Baptist faith.

Carlos is survived by his beloved wife of over 30 years, Barbara Ann Fritz Garza; his son, Andrew Isaias Garza of Kenedy and his brothers, Joe Garza and Isaias Garza, Jr., both of Victoria, Texas. Mr. Garza is preceded in death by his parents, Isaias Garza and Noemi Ruiz Garza.

Visitation will be held, Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 30, 2013 in the Eckols Chapel with Rev. Robert Ochoa officiating. Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery, Kenedy, Texas.

Felipa Esparza Reyes

Felipa Esparza Reyes, a lifelong resident of Kenedy, Texas, passed away surrounded by her family, Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 9 days. She was born, May 13, 1918 in Tivoli, Texas to Francisco Esparza and Juanita Otero Esparza.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Garcez and husband Michael of Grand Prairie, Texas and her 2 grandsons, Michael Garcez and wife Anna of Kenedy, Texas and Patrick Garcez of Grand Prairie, Texas. Ms. Reyes is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Trinidad Alvarado Reyes; her sister and her 4 brothers.

Visitation will be held, Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. – 1:30 P.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with funeral services beginning at 2:00 P.M., also in the chapel with Rev. Richard Pena officiating. Interment will follow in the Runge Cemetery, Runge, Texas.

 

Donnal “Donald” Hugh McCarn

Donnal (aka Donald) Hugh McCarn, 81, of Tomball, passed away August 14, 2013 at the Heartland Nursing Home, in Houston. Graveside funeral services will be Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Pawnee Cemetery, in Pawnee, Bee County, Texas at 11 a.m. Service arrangements are being handled by Eckols Funeral Home in Kenedy, Texas – 830-583-2533.

Don was born on March 20, 1932, to Hugh Douglas and Dovie Jewell “Bill” Phillips McCarn, in Pawnee, Texas. About 1937, the family moved to Port Lavaca, where Don started school. His dad worked for many farms and gins in the area, but soon became a school bus driver, and spent as much time making sure that Don stayed in class. Don met the love of his life there in Port Lavaca schools, and soon he and Betty Jean Patrick were a pair to be seen everywhere together. Don worked many nights at the old Port Lavaca Theater.

In March 1951, Don joined the US Air Force to do his part in the Korean Conflict. While home on Thanksgiving leave after boot camp, he and Betty were married on November 26, 1951 at the First Methodist Church, in Port Lavaca. After the honeymoon, he was stationed in England, where Betty soon joined him. While there they had their first son, Donald Hugh, Jr.

When Don got out of the USAF in 1955, he worked for Union Carbide for a short period. Going to Texas A & M College was a priority for him. The family spent a few short years in Aggie Land while Don got his degree in Industrial Education, graduating in 1958. During the time in College Station, his and Betty’s second son, Dennis John, was born.

Don moved his family to Corona, New Mexico to work as a school teacher. Shortly after that, he landed a position with Lufkin Industries in Lufkin, Texas. He spent several years in Lufkin, and their daughter, Kerisa Ann, was born. From here he and the family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Great Bend, Kansas, back to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Sheffield Lake, Ohio. The family moved to Conroe, Texas after Betty was diagnosed with cancer. Don went to work for the International Division/Houston of Lufkin Industries where he traveled extensively in the Middle East. They moved to Bellville in 1981 and Betty passed away in 1982.

Don met Jane Barnett and they married in Quinlan, Texas. They lived in Bastrop, Bellville and finally Port Lavaca. At the onset of Dementia, Don moved to Marble Falls to be near Kerisa. From there he moved to the Temple V. A. Nursing Home, then to Tomball.

Don is survived by his sons, Don, Jr. and wife, Beth McCarn of Sealy; Dennis John and wife, Kim McCarn of Anacortes, Washington; daughter, Kerisa Ann and Eddie Storey of Cypress, Texas; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; brother, Bobby Ray McCarn, Port Lavaca; sister, Lynda Sue and husband, Walter Breeding, Madisonville, and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Terrence Joseph “Terry” McGovern

 

Terrence Joseph “Terry” McGovern, Age 67, of Kenedy, TX formerly of San Antonio, TX entered into eternal peace on Monday, August 12, 2013.  He was born on May 10, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to Edward P. and Maria Hartley McGovern.  He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle. He was a Veteran of the United States Army.  He then went on to serve his community in San Antonio, TX at University Hospital as a social worker for the Texas Dept. of Family Services, from which he retired after 28 years of service. 

 He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years Irene, his son Christopher Alvear, daughter Michelle Alvear, granddaughter Jacquelyn, grandsons Kendell and Michael, brothers Eddie and Phil McGovern, sisters Monica McClusky and Janie Casanova and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and brother Thomas McGovern.

 Visitation will be held Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel in Kenedy, TX. A Prayer Vigil Service will be held Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 1:30 PM with Funeral  Mass celebrated at 2:00 PM at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Karnes City, TX. 

 

Pallbearers will be Chris Alvear, Michelle Alvear, Kendell Seguin, Leroy Kotzur, David Kotzur, and Anthony Salinas.

Margarita Cruz Sendejo

Margarita Cruz Sendejo, surrounded by her family at her residence in Floresville, Texas, peacefully passed away at 12:15 P.M. Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 18 days.

Margarita was born, June 20, 1918, in Floresville, Texas, the daughter of Juan Cruz, Sr., and Lina Flores Cruz. She attended school up until the fourth grade and then began working with her family. At the young age of five, Margarita learned how to ride horses with her father. Growing up Margarita worked various small jobs with her family around the fields of South Texas and then later in Michigan. Later in her teenage years and into her adult life Margarita could be found at the local dances. She had a love for dancing like no other and even much later in her life could occasionally be found on the dance floor.

Margarita was of the Catholic faith and practiced it faithfully. She was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, the Church where she brought up her family. Margarita lived a simple life filled with much family and love. She was a loving mother to, Mary, Petra, Rosa, Rudy and Eudelia; having raised them all and instilling in them strong morals and many life lessons. She tended to her children and her home with great love and took pride in it all.

Margarita had a special love for not only her children, but her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a few great-great grandchildren. She took delight in raising many of them throughout the years and took great pride in each one of them. She could always be found moving and bustling away throughout the many houses she visited; it wasn’t long after Margarita was in your house before you had a clean kitchen and hand washed dishes. She enjoyed her many games of Loteria she played around the dining room tables of her children and grandchildren. She never played for much of a prize; but always found her own prize in the time she spent with them all. In addition to her many hobbies another of her favorites was sitting at
the table and coloring, she colored many a pages from the coloring books of her grandchildren and took great joy in finishing a page and showing it off.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan, Sr., and Lina Cruz; her daughters, Elida Sendejo and Mary Sendejo Silva; her sister, Magdalena Garcia; her brothers, Juan Cruz, Jr., and Jacovo Cruz; her grandson, Leandro “Rooster” Herrera, Jr., and her son-in-law, Francisco “Frank” Rodriguez. Margarita is survived by her children, Petra Rodriguez of Floresville; Rosa Guajardo and husband Reynaldo of San Antonio, Rudy Sendejo and wife Mary Ann of Saspamco and Eudelia Herrera and husband Leandro, Sr., of Floresville; her son-in-law, George C. Silva, Sr., of Floresville; her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a few great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of many friends she made throughout her lifetime.

Visitation will begin after 5:00 P.M., Sunday, followed by the recitation of the rosary at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, August 11, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Floresville, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Monday, August 12, 2013, with 11:00 A.M. Funeral Mass celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Floresville with Msgr. Franciszek Kurzaj officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Floresville, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be, George O. Silva, Jr., Lorenzo Herrera, Jr., James Ray Guajardo, Ernest Rodriguez, Gregory Peña and Ronnie Sendejo.

Antonia Moreno Rivas

Antonia Moreno Rivas, 91, of Kenedy, TX, entered eternal rest, Friday, August 2, 2013 in Karnes City, TX. She was born June 13, 1922, in Karnes County, the daughter of Juan Moreno and Maria Vidaurri Moreno. She is survived by her 2 daughters and 2 sons. A rosary will be recited, Sun. Aug. 4, 2013, at 7PM, in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel,
Kenedy, TX. Funeral mass will be celebrated, 10 AM., Mon. Aug. 5, 2013 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Runge Cemetery.

Aurora “Loli” Amaya Dominguez

Aurora “Loli” Amaya Dominguez, a longtime resident of Runge, Texas, passed away, Monday, July 29, 2013, in Runge, Texas at the age of 54 years, 7 months and 22 days.

Aurora was born, December 7, 1958 in Choate, Texas, the daughter of Juan Amaya and Angelita Escobedo Amaya. On June 14, 1980, Aurora married Francisco “Frank” Dominguez, Jr., in Goliad, Texas. Aurora was a devoted homemaker and was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Runge.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 33 years, Francisco “Frank” Dominguez, Jr., of Runge; her mother, Angelita Escobedo Amaya; a nephew that she considered a son, Benito Amaya of Kenedy; her sisters, Maria Inez Amaya, Janie Jacquez, Petra Ramirez and Maria Alvarez and her brothers, Johnny, Isidro, Ramand, David and Martin Amaya. Mrs. Dominguez is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Juan Amaya; her sisters, Herlinda Tovar, Maria Elena Escamilla, Eva Amaya and Angelita Amaya and her brothers, Felipe and Ramon Amaya.

A prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 2, 2013 in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 3, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Ochoa and Rev. Isidro Hernandez officiating. Interment will follow in the Runge Cemetery.
