His dad worked for many farms and gins in the area, but soon became a school bus driver, and spent as much time making sure that Don stayed in class. Don met the love of his life there in Port Lavaca schools, and soon he and Betty Jean Patrick were a pair to be seen everywhere together. Don worked many nights at the old Port Lavaca Theater.

In March 1951, Don joined the US Air Force to do his part in the Korean Conflict. When Don got out of the USAF in 1955, he worked for Union Carbide for a short period. Going to Texas A & M College was a priority for him. The family spent a few short years in Aggie Land while Don got his degree in Industrial Education, graduating in 1958. During the time in College Station, his and Betty’s second son, Dennis John, was born.

Don moved his family to Corona, New Mexico to work as a school teacher. Shortly after that, he landed a position with Lufkin Industries in Lufkin, Texas. He spent several years in Lufkin, and their daughter, Kerisa Ann, was born. From here he and the family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Great Bend, Kansas, back to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Sheffield Lake, Ohio. The family moved to Conroe, Texas after Betty was diagnosed with cancer. Don went to work for the International Division/Houston of Lufkin Industries where he traveled extensively in the Middle East. They moved to Bellville in 1981 and Betty passed away in 1982.

Don met Jane Barnett and they married in Quinlan, Texas. They lived in Bastrop, Bellville and finally Port Lavaca. At the onset of Dementia, Don moved to Marble Falls to be near Kerisa. From there he moved to the Temple V. A. Nursing Home, then to Tomball.
