Wilson “Leon” Strahan

Wilson “Leon” Strahan, Age 87 of Yorktown, TX, passed away on February 20, 2026, in Cuero, TX.   Leon was born on September 29, 1938, in Houston, TX, to the late Woodrow Wilson and Christine Ray Strahan. Leon went to John H. Reagan High School in the Houston area, where he played football as a star player, and later went on to play for Wharton Jr. College. After college, Leon proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He went on to build a career as a Subsea Engineer in the oil and gas industry, working for several companies and traveling overseas for projects before retiring from VETCO Oil and Gas. During this time, he earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his plane to many places. Leon participated in several years of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo BBQ cookoff with his team, the NOISEY BOYS, showcasing his extraordinary barbequing skills. Upon retirement, he served 1 term as Mayor of Yorktown, TX. Leon enjoyed playing golf and traveling to various vacation areas, especially to Colorado to ski in the mountains. Leon was the owner and operator of Pop’s Leon’s BBQ in Yorktown, where he enjoyed sitting and visiting with his customers.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson and Christine Ray Strahan and his  brother, Ervin Elliott Strahan.  He is survived by his loving wife Lydia Rossett Strahan, son Robert Deon Strahan (Vicki), step-son,Jerald Rossett (Gail), sister, Karen Robertson, grandchildren, Kristi Korkermer (Chris), Kelly Strahan (Kelli), Justin Rossett (D’Nesha), Cassie Rossett, Jerry Rossett, 7 great grandchildren, his beloved dog, Ginger; and numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends who will greatly miss Leon.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 6PM to 8PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 10AM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with JB Farris officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.
