Maria Torres Cantu of Charco, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the age of 77.  She was born in Floresville Texas on November 24, 1948 to Anita Valadez Martinez and Ysidoro G. Martinez.  Maria was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Runge, Texas.  She will always be remembered for her love, generosity, and she will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.  Maria was a devoted, loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister.

Remaining to cherish Maria’s memory are her husband, Rudy Cantu of 31 years. Children, Chris Garza (Manuel) of Runge, Annie Weimer (Ronnie) of Poth, Mark Torres (Leslie) of Runge, and Rose Maddox (Chris) of La Vernia. Her siblings, Dora Martinez (Santana) of Poth, Ysidoro Martinez, Jr. (Luz) of San Antonio, Janie Trevino (Raul) of Floresville, Irene Quintanilla (Johnny) of Floresville, Rowland Martinez of Floresville, and Sylvia Gonzales (James) of Floresville.  Maria was also blessed with 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her son Magdaleno “Mo” Torres, her parents, Anita Valadez Martinez and Ysidoro G. Martinez, and a grandson, Jaymes Torres.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  with Memorial Services and a Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M. in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel located at 420 W. Live Oak Street, Kenedy, TX 78119.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 2, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Runge, officiated by Deacon Cantu.  Interment will follow in the Runge Latin Cemetery.

Serving as Pallbearers: Aaron Torres, Darren Torres, MJ Torres, Justin Torres, Kaden Nery, Joseph Garza, Michael Garza and Jaxon Barrientez.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Mason Torres, Carter Garza, and Hudson Flores.
