Charles M. Hartsfield

Charles M. Hartsfield, a resident of Kenedy, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 in Floresville, Texas at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 14 days. He was born November 18, 1940 in Kenedy, Texas, the son of Melvin Hartsfield and Sallie McDonald Hartsfield.

Charles is survived by his former wife, Linda Gilley Hartsfield of Kenedy; his sons, Randall Hartsfield and wife Cecilia of Kenedy and Jeff Hartsfield and wife Lisa of Kenedy; his 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth McDonald. Mr. Hartsfield is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Butch Hartsfield.

Visiation will begin at 10 A.M., Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel and funeral services will begin at 2 PM on Tuesday also in the chapel. Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery.

Morris Mixon Eddy

Morris Mixon Eddy, 77, a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran,beloved husband and father passed away February 3, 2014 surrounded by his wife and children.

Morris received the National Defense Service Medal.  He had a long career in the oil field services industry where he was respected for his knowledge and tremendous work ethic.  He was the rock and strength of the family but at the same time silent and unassuming.  In addition to his family, his passions included antique cars and animals of all kinds.  A pocket coin he kept with him expressed the way he lived his life and the life he wished for others:  “Follow the footprints of the Lord.  They will lead you through troubled times and brighten your life”.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Eddy, three sons and daughters-in-law:  Morris Jr. and Kim Eddy,Dwayne and Barbara Eddy, and Dean and Ellie Eddy; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; one sister Doris and her husband Jim Gates, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Dewey Eddy,sister Johnnie Mae Neal and brothers Irving Roy Eddy and James Harold Eddy.

Funeral services are being held on February 5, 2014 at 2 pm atEckols Funeral Home, 420 W. Live Oak, Kenedy, Texas with burial following at the Kenedy Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to The Wounded Warrior Project, Inc.

Lupe V. Davila, Jr.

davilaLupe V. Davila, Jr., a lifelong resident of Kenedy, Texas, entered eternal rest, Friday, January 31, 2014 at 1:36 P.M., in the Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital in Kenedy, Texas at the age of 63 years, 9 months and 10 days.

Lupe was born and raised in Kenedy, Texas, April 21, 1950, the son of Lupe Davila and Evarista Villarreal Davila. He attended Kenedy Schools and in 1970 began working for Stimson’s Furniture in Kenedy, Texas. On January 8, 1970, Lupe married the love of his life, Adela Moreno in Kenedy. He and Adela worked side by side; not only in life but at work. While Adela worked the store front, Lupe handled the service and delivery. It was here where Lupe was able to do what he loved most and truly get to know and interact with the many different customers.  Lupe retired from Stimson Furniture in 2010.

Lupe was also a retired member of the Kenedy Volunteer Fire Department where he remained active for 27 years. He was an active member of the St. Cornelius Knights of Columbus Council #6782 in Karnes City and was a practicing member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kenedy, Texas.

Mr. Davila was truly a “people person” and never met a stranger. He was always ready to meet you with a smile and always left an impression behind. He had a love for fishing as well as a hobby of building miscellaneous wood works around the house and especially birdhouses; but Lupe’s true love was in his family and his grandchildren. He could spend countless hours with his grandchildren and looked forward to spending the summer months with them the most.

Lupe is survived by his loving wife of over 44 years, Adela Davila; his son, Michael Davila and wife Selina of Spring; his daughter, Monica Davila and partner Grace of Alice; his sisters, Janie Kotzur of Kenedy, Lenora Moreno of Rosenberg and, Oralia Jacques of Rosenberg; and his brother, Eddie Davila of Houston. Lupe is also survived by his 5 beautiful grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas, Daniella, Ciera and Matthew; his numerous nieces and nephews and a host of many friends.

Visitation will be held, Sunday, February 2, 2014, in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, and a rosary will be recited, Sunday at 7:00 P.M., in the chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated, 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 3, 2014, at Our Lady Queen Of Peace Catholic Church, Kenedy, Texas with Rev. Norbert Herman officiating.  Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery, Kenedy, Texas.

Evangelina “Angie” Salais Garza

GARXA OBITEvangelina “Angie” Salais Garza, 74 of Kenedy, Texas went to be with the Lord, Monday, January 27, 2014 at 5:20 P.M., in the John Paul II Nursing Home in Kenedy, Texas at the age of 74.

Angie was born March 16, 1939, in Kenedy, Texas to Jose Salais, Sr., and Paulita Ramos Salais. She was a lifelong resident of Kenedy, having worked most of her adult life at John Paul II Nursing Home; where she retired from and spent her last days on earth. Mrs. Garza was a lifelong member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Diane Garza. Angie is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Manuel C. Garza, Sr.; her two sons, Manuel Garza, Jr., and wife Maria, and Joe Richard Garza and wife April; her six precious grandchildren, Geoffrey, Sarah, Jacob, Bekah, Adah and Elliana Evangeline Garza; her five brothers, Dan, Joe, Raul, Rey and Jesse Salais, and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of many friends.

The family will receive friends at Eckols Funeral Home on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 P.M., with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 A.M., Friday, January 31, 2014, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Norbert Herman officiating. Interment will follow in the Loma Alta Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be, Dan, Jose Raul, Rey, Jesse, and Jaime Salais. Honorary pallbearers will be, Jaime DeLaGarza, Jimmy DeLaGarza, Juan DeLaGarza and Robert Salais.

Gary Wayne Dieringer

Gary Wayne Dieringer, a resident of Beeville, TX, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 8:17 P.M. in his home at the age of 64 years.  Gary was born on June 6, 1949 in Cuero, TX; the son of Edwin J. and Gertrude Shock Dieringer. Gary was an oilfield consultant for R.W. Dirks and of the Lutheran faith.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin J. and Gertrude Shock Dieringer.  He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Debbie Dieringer of Beeville, TX;  daughters Jacquelyn Rust of Huntsville, TX; Tammy Gonzales of Beeville, TX; Becky Chamrad of Round Rock, TX; sons Gary Wayne Dieringer, II of Beeville, TX; Wayne Barnes of Sugarland, TX; grandchildren Mckayla Barnes, Addie Barnes, Braylon Barnes, Jake Prothro, Noah Porthro and Samantha Chamrad;  sisters Doris Pope and Fay Smart of Kenedy, TX; and brothers, Charles  Dieringer of Sealy, TX and Ray Dieringer of Kenedy, TX.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.  in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 1:00 P.M.  in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. T.J. Burris officiating.  Interment will follow at the Sand Branch Cemetery in Bigfoot, TX.

Alfredo Ortiz

alfredo ortizAlfredo Ortiz our beloved husband, father and grandfather was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on January 18, 2014 at the age of 67 years, 6 months and 9 days.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, Cruz and Antonia Ortiz; brothers, Doniciano and Isaac Ortiz; sisters, Brigida Serenil, Juanita Ochoa, and Pura Cruz.

He is survived by his wife of forty two years, Rosa Maria Ortiz; his daughters, Yolanda Gonzales; Nora Moncavias and her husband Pedro; Marisol Garza and her husband Jesse; son, Cruz Ortiz and his wife Joann, all of San Antonio; Grandchildren Jessica, Ashley, Emma, Michelle, Crystal, Joshua, Nicole, Cruz Jr. Samantha, Justin, Christopher and Adrian; his brothers, Victor Ortiz and his wife Gloria; Roberto Ortiz and his wife Sylvia; Cruz Ortiz and his wife Manuela; and Daniel Ortiz;  his sisters, Antonia Torres, Alice Rossett and her husband Larry; all of San Antonio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be, Cruz Ortiz, Jesse Garza, Angel Cruz, Joshua Ortiz, Justin Hettler, Christopher Hettler and John Raye Carmona.

Visitation was held, Monday, January 20, 2014, in the Eckols Funeral Home, Inc., Kenedy, Texas, and a prayer service was held Monday at 6:00 P.M., in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services were held, Tuedsday, January 21, 2014 in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 P.M., followed with interment in the Loma Alta Cemetery, Kenedy, Texas.

Linda Kay Johnson

Linda Kay Johnson, a lifelong resident of Kenedy, Texas, passed away, Friday, January 17, 2014 at 12:50 A.M., in her residence at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 26 days.

Linda was born April 22, 1950 in Freer, Texas, the daughter of Troy Bennett, Jr., and Wanda Whitley Bennett.

Linda is preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Bennett. She is survived by her husband of over 19 years, Bobby G. Johnson of Kenedy; her father, Troy Bennett, Jr.; her daughter, Elisha Faye Johnson of Kenedy; her sons, Bradley Johnson of Kenedy and David Eric Velau of Vermont; her grandsons, Dylen Malaer, Nicholas Troy Velau, Phillip Blankenship, and Robert Blankenship, and her brother, Dan Bennett of Victoria.

Visitation will be held at 12:00 Noon, Sunday, January 19, 2014, in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 P.M., Sunday in the chapel with Rev. Walter Hill, III, with interment following in the Kenedy Cemetery, Kenedy, Texas.

Ofelia R. Lopez

Ofelia R. Lopez, 79, of Kenedy, Texas, passed away, Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Kenedy, Texas. Ofelia was born August 2, 1934 the daughter of Tomas Rodriguez and Claudia Escobar Rodriguez. Ms. Lopez is survived by her 9 children.

Rosary will be recited, Tuesday, January 14, 2014, 7:00 P.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Wednesday, January 15, 2014, 11:00 A.M., at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Olga Ramos Espinoza

Olga Ramos Espinoza, 73 of Kenedy, Texas passed away, Friday, January 10, 2014. She was born January 20, 1940 in Kenedy, Texas the daughter of Eufracio Ramos and Belen Garza Ramos. She is survived by her 3 children.

Rosary will be recited, Monday, January 13, 2014, 7:00 P.M., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Tuesday, January 14, 2014, 9:00 A.M., at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Loma Alta Cemetery.

Julius Slezinsky

Julius Slezinsky, entered eternal rest, Friday, January 10, 2014 at 7:08 A.M., at the Frank M. Tejada Veteran’s Home in Floresville, Texas at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 29 days.

Julius was born January 12, 1925 in El Campo, Texas the son of Rudolf Slezinsky and Jennie Stepan Slezinsky. Julius proudly served his country in the United States Air Force having fought in World War II and Normandy Bay. After leaving the Air Force, Julius married the love of his life, Vivian Audilet; March 1956 in Kenedy, Texas. Julius began working for John Deere as a salesman and continued with them for 46 years until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW and enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, gardening and woodworking. Julius was of the Lutheran faith.

Mr. Slezinsky is preceded in death by his parents, Rudolf and Jennie Slezinsky and his brothers, Rudolf Slezinsky, Jr., Henry Slezinsky, Robert Slezinsky and Otto Slezinsky. Julius is survived by his beloved wife of over 57 years, Vivian Slezinsky of Kenedy; his daughters, Yvonne Ruhmann and husband Russ of Cotulla, Texas and Elizabeth Soden and husband Scott of Stockdale; his grandchildren, Zachary Ruhmann and wife Lauren, Trenton Ruhmann, Jennifer Soden and Tyler Soden; his brother, Walter Slezinsky; his sister-in-law, Eilene Slezinsky and his nieces, Virginia Lee, Rebecca Lee Shirley Coleman.
