Dr. Marshall H. Bates

Dr. Marshall H. Bates, of Katy,TX formerly of Kenedy, TX was born in San Angelo, Texas on October 6, 1922 and passed away on April 1, 2019 at the age of 96. Marshall graduated from San Angelo High School in 1941. He married Helen Louise McDaniel on June 14, 1942 and they were married for over 76 years. Marshall joined the Air Force and after the war he moved to Tennessee to pursue his Optometric Degree. After graduation, he and Helen moved to Kenedy,Texas where he opened his practice and they lived until 1990. Marshall was active in the Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, and the Lions Club. He served on the school board, hospital board, and church finance committee. He also served on the board of Texas Optometric Society and was appointed by Govenor Smith to serve on the Texas Board of Aging. Doc is what his fishing buddies called him. Marshall’s favorit hobby was hunting and he thorougly enjoyed watching his grandsons and then great grandchildren participating in their extracurricular activities and sporting events. Gawgie, as he was known by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, regularly enjoyed watching his favorite NASCAR racers, football and basball games on the weekends and was an avid Katy Tiger football fan. After movng to Katy, Texas in 1990, Marshall became active at Kingsland Baptist Church and served as a greeter and deacon while being a member of the Christian Fellowship Bible Study class. Marshall was an avid “mall walker” and enjoyed the fellowship with his friends at the mall. Marshall is survived by his wife, Helen Bates and daughter, Becky Franklin; grandson Michael Franklin alon with his wife Carol and their tow children Mollie and Braden; Grandson John Franklin along with his wife Sarah and their two children Avery and Jase. Marshall was preceded in death by his son in law Don Franklin and is survived by Don;s brother and sister, Richard and D’Ann Franklin, niece Carla Pruneda and nephew Bryan Houck and their respective families. A Graveside service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 1:00p.m. at Kenedy Cemetery with Richard Robinson officiating. A Memorial Service will also be held on Saturday, April 6th, at 10:30a.m. at the Kingsland Baptist Church. Ray Allen Williams Sr.

Ray Allen Williams Sr., of Kenedy, Texas was born on June 18, 1951 in Kenedy, Texas  to Odell Williams Sr. and Lillie Mae Taylor Williams passed away on March 28, 2019 at the age of 67. Ray  was employed by Premier Vacuum Services as a truck driver. He also was employed by Apple Moving and Storage. Ray enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, family members  and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Odell Allen Williams, Sr. and Lillie Mae Williams; his 4 brothers: Odell Allen Williams Jr., Johnny Lee Williams, Tommy Lee Williams and David Lawrence Williams. He is survived by his wife: Linda Tyrone Willimas; his current companion, Dolly Renay Mackey Williams, Katherine Williams mother of his children; sons: Ray Allen Williams Jr. and Curtis Odell Williams Sr. and daughter: Katree Rae Williams, all of San Antonio,TX; stepchildren: stepson, Rodney Mackey and stepdaughters: Dyshann Mackey Brazil of San Antonio,TX, Laveena Tyrone and Laniece Watts, of Houston, TX; sisters: Eddie Jewel Shaw of Victoria,TX, Charlotte Ann Lockard of California, Eileen (Clifford) Kinney of Bastrop,TX; brothers: Henry Ray Williams of Memphis,TN and Stanley (Shirley) Williams of Kenedy,TX; Sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Williams of San Antonio,TX and Ivory Williams of Karnes City,TX and a host of relatives and friends. Chester Wayne McIntosh, Sr.

Chester Wayne McIntosh, Sr., 91, died Friday, March 22, 2019 at his home in Kenedy, Texas. Mr. McIntosh was born in Sand Branch, Texas to Austin and Zula McIntosh.  He graduated from Poteet High School.  He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Marie (Ewers) McIntosh and his sister Vesta.  Survivors include two sons, Chester Wayne (Linda) McIntosh, Jr. and Avery Lee McIntosh; two sisters Omadell Garnett and Ramah Edwards; two grandchildren Angela (McIntosh) Yusten and Nathanael McIntosh; and seven great grandchildren.  A service celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Match 28, 2019 at Eckols Funeral Home, 420 W. Live Oak St., Kenedy, Texas. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 Wednesday, March 27.  Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery.

Leonora “Gypsy” Barnes

Leonora “Gypsy” Barnes, Age 81 of Kenedy, TX passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 in San Antonio, TX. She was born on April 11, 1937 in Kenedy to the late Feliciano and Maria Farias Garza. She married James Barnes, Sr. on Sept. 16, 1958 in Laredo, TX who precedes her in death. She retired as a Certified Nurses Aide for Larkwood Nursing home, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and beloved friend to many.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Barnes, Sr.; parents Feliciano and Maria F. Garza; and a sister, Maria “Pancake” Garcia.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Guerrero and husband Armando of Tustin, CA., Brenda Villanueva and husband Edward of Mont Belvieu, TX; sons, James Barnes, Jr. and wife Phyllis of Karnes City, TX, Michael Barnes and Terri Koenning of Floresville, TX, Mark Allen Barnes and April of Kenedy, TX, Brian Barnes and Cheryl of Kenedy, TX; sisters, Dava Ramirez of Mathis, TX, Demeteria Vela of Clio, MI, Mary Lou Herrera of San Antonio, TX, Lucy Garza of College Station, Clara Ramos of Victoria, TX, Carolyn Martinez of Kenedy, TX; brother, Epinemio Garza of San Antonio, TX; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and special companion Blue.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 10AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Norbert Hermann officiating.  Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery.

Guilford Gillis Wythe, Jr.

Guilford Gillis Wythe, Jr. passed away on March 22, 2019 at the age of 86. He was born in Galveston, TX.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Guilford Gillis Wythe and Myrtle Almon Wythe and sisters, Doris Weber and Bobbye Knebel.  He is survived by his wife, Patsy, daughter, Trisha Box and husband, Brian and their daughters Emily and Katie Box of Spring Branch, Texas.  He is also survived by son, Jeffrey Wythe and wife, Kathy and their children, Cameron, Adrienne and Trenton of College Station, Texas.  His son, Gil Wythe and wife Dyann of Odessa, Texas, and their sons, Eric and Justin and wife Ashley.  He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Kiersten and Mila Wythe.  Gillis will be remembered by many thru his career of 50 years as a Physical Therapist in the San Antonio Area.  He also served his country in the U.S. ARMY.  He leaves behind nieces, nephews and many friends who were so special in his life.  A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, March 30th at 2P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Runge, Texas, with Pastor Randy Bruno officiating.  Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, P.O. Barbara Ann DuBose

Barbara Ann DuBose of Pawnee, Texas was born on August 21, 1947 in Corsicana, Texas passed away at her residence surrounded by family on March 19, 2019 at the age of 71. Mrs. DuBose was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Whitehead; two grandchildren: Pascol Cole DuBose and Paisley Inez DuBose and husband Ira Lynn DuBose in 2017. She is survived by her two sons: Duane DuBose and fiancé, Linda Bettin of Karnes City, Texas and Wesley (Jenn) DuBose of Pawnee, Texas; grandchildren: Katie Lynn DuBose and William Warren Cole DuBose; brother in law, Dale DuBose of Corpus Christi, Texas and other relatives. Lottie Moses Payne, of Kenedy,TX  born on February 5, 1932 in Sugarland, TX to Burl Moses and Nellie Morris Moses passed away on March 12, 2019 at the age of 87. Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by her husband Elvin Payne in February of 2012. She is survived by her daughter Jackie Ruthledge of Kenedy,TX; her son, Wiley (Debbie) Payne of Portland,TX; 8 grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; sister, Mary Ruth Moses of Austin,TX;and other relatives. Nieves “Snow” Arenas, of Kenedy, TX born on Agust 5, 1924 in Karnes County, TX to Pablo Arenas and Candelaria Fuentes Arenas passed away March 5, 2019 at the age of 94. Mr. Arenas is preceded in death by his wife Guadalupe, in 2003f and sister, Incarnacion Arenas Salazar and brothers, Matilde Arenas and Amador Ramos Sr. Survivors include his daughters: Gloria A.
