Pete “Capiro” Cantu

Pete “Capiro” Cantu, Age 84 of Kenedy, passed away March 10, 2025 in Floresville, TX surrounded by his loving family.  Pete “Capiro” was born on February 24, 1941 to the late Polo and Petra Pena Cantu in Kenedy, TX.  Pete is reunited with his son Freddy Cantu, daughter, Mary Jane Cantu Ibarra, brothers, Ernest Pena, Sr., Robert Cantu and David Cantu.  He is survived by his wife Stella Garcia, 2 daughters Bernice Reyes and Romelda Cantu, 1 son Peter Cantu, 9 bonus children Judy, Connie, Marcel, Charlene, Mary, Eddie, Cindy, Amy, David, 13 siblings Polo Cantu, Lupe Cantu, Richard Cantu, Renee Cantu, Conrado Cantu, Ruben Cantu, Arturo Cantu, Sylvia Cantu Garcia, Lydia Cantu Sauceda, Barbara Cantu Carpenter along with many beautiful grandchildren, great-grandchildren who loved him dearly.  Pete was known to the community as Capiro, El Cap, Cappy, Deddy, Popo and Grandpa Pete.  He leaves behind a legacy as an amazing cook at Barth’s Restaurant  for over 50 years.  Capiro enjoyed spending time with his family, gambling, traveling, watching Gunsmoke, listening to Elvis and cheering on the 49ers with a smile that was unforgettable.  He is loved and will be keenly missed by many.

 

Family Visitation will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 9AM to 1PM with Services at 1PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joseph Castillo officiating.  Interment will follow in the Loma Alta Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.

 

Serving as Pallbearers will be Freddy Pena, Joel Ibarra, Gilbert Ibarra, Joseph Villarreal, Darian Pena, Fabian Pena and Noah Leyva.

Larry Riley

Larry Riley, a beloved family man, husband, dad and grandpa, who was also a seasoned professional in the oil and gas industry for over 40 years passed away peacefully at the age of 67 on March 11, 2025. He will be missed by all who knew him.  Larry was known for his love of bull riding, rodeo, good old country music, friends and his family. Larry will forever be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debbie Riley, who passed before him. Larry is survived by his loving mother, Loleta Riley, his siblings; Shane Riley, Robert Riley, Rory Riley and Vickie Menn. His children; Cynder McAnear (Don), Nikki Barker (Jason), Blaine Riley and Jake Riley (Megan), and his grandchildren; Logan Barker, Landen Barker, Kendall Barker, Houston McAnear, Bryce McAnear, Blaine Riley, Jake (JJ) Riley and many nieces and nephews. His family was the light of his life and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  Larry’s legacy of hard work, kindness, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of those he left behind. He will be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him, his unwavering commitment to his work and his deep love for his family.  Pallbearers for the service will be Robert Riley, Rory Riley, Blaine Riley, Jake Riley, Jason Barker and Don McAnear.
A small Graveside Service will be held to celebrate his life at Pawnee Cemetery, in Pawnee TX at 9:00am on Saturday,March 15, 2025.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Comfort House, 617 W. Dallas Ave, McAllen, TX, 78501 in Larry’s honor.

Nestara Perez Patel

Nestara Perez Patel, Age 73 of Richmond, TX passed away on March 8, 2025.  Nestara was born on September 26, 1951 in Runge, TX to the late Adolfo, Sr. and Audelia Martinez Perez.  She married Girish Patel on September 24, 1977 in Hondo, TX; retired as a school teacher for Lamar Consolidated High School, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and of the Catholic Faith.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Adolfo, Sr. and Audelia Martinez Perez and a daughter, Sara Anita Patel.  She is survived by her loving husband, Girish Patel of Richmond; brother, Dinesh Patel Pennsylvania; grandson, Parker Pacey of Richmond; siblings, Jesse Perez of Karnes City, Adolfo Perez, Jr. of San Antonio, Mike Perez of Kenedy, Irma Perez of Kenedy and numerous nieces nephews and extended family members.  A Holy Rosary will be recited Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 10AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Ploch officiating.  Interment will follow in the Loma Alta Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.

Serving as Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Joyce Maxine Sahm Pogue

Joyce Maxine Sahm Pogue passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the age of 89.  Joyce was born in the community of El Oso outside Kenedy, Texas, to Hilbert Sahm and Elsie Esse on February 24, 1936.  She graduated from Kenedy High School, and Texas State University, ultimately receiving a master’s degree from Corpus Christi State University.  While attending Texas State University, she married Roger Kent Pogue in 1957.  After graduation, the couple moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, and began teaching and raising their family.  Throughout her lifetime, Joyce enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, country western dancing, outdoor activities and tending bulbs and flowers in her flowerbeds.  After retiring, she liked to play golf.  She enjoyed her grandchildren immensely and their beloved “Mamaw” shared a special relationship with them while they were growing up. Joyce delighted in serving as our extended family’s historian. She treasured the opportunity to reconnect with her childhood roots, living life as a “country girl.”  Joyce was predeceased by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Addie Mae and Roy Retzloff.  Joyce is survived by her husband of 67 years, Roger Kent Pogue, her children Jamie Pogue Richards (husband Francis), Gina Pogue Morris (husband Nick), and Kyle Kent Pogue (wife Kelly);  her grandchildren – Austin Brandt Richards (wife Amy), Justin Lee Richards (wife Gretchen), Ryan Paul Kim (wife Erin) and Caden Carter Pogue and her great grandchildren –  Brandt Daniel Richards, Kennedy Jon Richards and Lainey Kate Richards.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 14, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with services beginning at 1:00 pm with Pastor Lee Ann Dye-Barker officiating.  Interment will follow in Pawnee Cemetery.

Dora Fernandez Molina

Dora Fernandez Molina, Age 92 of Karnes City, TX passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025 in Kenedy, TX.  Dora was born on January 17, 1933 to the late Luis and Ruth Lamont Fernandez.  Dora married Andres Serenil Molina who precedes her in death, was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a retired home health provider and devout member of St. Cornelius Catholic Church.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Ruth Lamont Fernandez; husband Andres Serenil Molina; son, Enrique “Henry” Molina; grandchildren, Jason White, Rob Martinez; sister, Connie Paz and a brother, Ernesto Fernandez.  She is survived by her children, Darlene Adams and husband Jim of Karnes City, Gerald James Molina and wife Daisy of Karnes City, Gary John Molina and wife Lisa of Austin; sisters, Mary De La Rosa of San Antonio, Lydia Gonzales of San Antonio; brothers, Joe Fernandez of San Antonio, Richard Fernandez of San Antonio; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many extended family members and dear friends.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 10:30 AM with Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 AM at the St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Karnes City, TX.  A Private Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Gabriel J. Valdez

Gabriel J. Valdez, Age 75 of Three Rivers, TX passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025 in San Antonio, TX surrounded by his loving family.  Gabriel was born on March 24, 1949 in Three Rivers to the late Crescencio and Lucia Cantu Valdez.  He married Mary Soliz on April 22, 1978 in Three Rivers, worked as a long-haul truck driver for Exxon, later in life retired from the City of Three Rivers and enjoyed being a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend to many and of the Catholic Faith.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Crescenio and Lucia Cantu Valdez, son Robert Arenal and his wife Alvina Estrada Arenal and grandchildren, Richard Joe Arenal and Steven Michael Arenal.  He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Valdez of Three Rivers, daughter, Ester Linares and husband Joe of Three Rivers, sisters, Esperanza Soliz of Three Rivers, Beatrice Garza of Three Rivers, Connie Valdez of Three Rivers; grandchildren Ashley Rodriguez, step-grandchildren, Vanessa Garcia, Marissa Puerto, Lisa Munoz, Mallarie Linares and Kadence Linares and many extended family members and dear friends.

A Holy Rosary will be recited Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 7, 2025 at 10AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Ploch officiating.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Joe Linares, Victor Cordaway, Ryan Cordaway, Edward Rodriguez, Johnny Salas, Marcos Soliz and Frank Valdez.

Alcario “Al” Sanchez

Alcario “Al” Sanchez, Age 90, of Pettus, TX passed away on February 25, 2025 in Beeville, TX.  Al was born on January 11, 1935 in Goliad, TX to the late Jose and Pilar Gonzales Sanchez.   He was a retired heavy haul truck driver for the County of Karnes, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather of the Christian Faith and the biggest Texas Rangers baseball fan.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Pilar Gonzales Sanchez; former spouses, Estella Garza Sanchez, Josefina Montez Sanchez; sons, Joe Manuel Sanchez, Ronnie Reynaldo Sanchez and his wife Mary, Rene Sanchez, sisters, Petra, Margarita, Nicolasa, Christina, Darias; brothers, Theodoro and Ubaldo “Chole”.

Al is survived by his children, Barbara Rivera and husband Allen of Victoria, Susana Rodriguez and husband Francisco of Corpus Christi, Esther Norman and husband David of Pettus, Regino Alcario Sanchez and wife Sylvia of Runge, 13 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, February 28, 2025 from 1PM to 6PM with a Prayer Service from 7PM to 8PM officiated by Pastor Robert Charles in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.  Services will be Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 10:30 AM officiated by Paster Joe Zuniga in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Loma Alta Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.

Linda Finch Donnell

Linda Finch Donnell, Age 79 of Choate, TX passed away on February 6, 2025.  Linda was born on March 11, 1945 in San Antonio, TX to the late Pete and Blanch Rodenberry Finch.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, retired real estate agent, loved breeding and showing rottweilers, graduate of Kenedy High School where she was an all-district basketball player, attended South East Texas University, a devout Houston Astros fan, was of the Christian Faith and will be keenly missed.  She is survived by her husband, Gene Donnell of Choate; children, Charles Blake Orr of Kenedy, Thomas Murry Orr and wife Cathy of Kenedy, Tamara Marshall and husband Ryan of Houston, step-children, Susan Donnell of Karnes City, Keith Donnell and wife Lauren of Benbrook, Shelly Grayson of Beeville, Shane Grayson and wife Shannon of Choate and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.  Graveside Services and Interment will be Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Kenedy Cemetery.

Reynaldo Salais

Reynaldo Salais, Age, 77 of Kenedy, TX passed away on February 1, 2025.  Reynaldo was born on January 12, 1948 in Kenedy to the late Jose and Paulita Ramos Salais.  He was a foreman for Dusty’s Sandblasting in Kenedy, a loving son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, friend to many and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.  Reynaldo is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Paulita Ramos Salais; sisters, Evangelina Garza and Alicia Salais.  Reynaldo is survived by his siblings, Daniel Salais and wife Patricia of Kenedy, Joe Salais, Jr. and wife Grace of Kenedy, Raul R. Salais and wife Eva of Kenedy, Jesse R. Salais and wife Elisa of Kenedy, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 9:00 AM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 7, 2025 at 10AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Ploch officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the Loma Alta Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.

Guadalupe Garcia Cruz

Guadalupe Garcia Cruz, Age 78 of Kenedy, TX passed away on January 27, 2025.  Guadalupe was born on January 2, 1947 in Karnes County, TX to the late Hilario and Rafaela Garcia Cruz. He married Rosalinda Hernandez Cruz; was a loving husband, father, brother, served his country Proudly in the US ARMY and of the Catholic Faith.  Guadalupe is preceded in death by his parents, Hilario and Rafaela Garcia Cruz; siblings, Eloisa Muniz, Oralia Gonzalez, Yolanda Alcantar, Petra Hernandez and Consuelo Valadez.  Guadalupe is survived by his loving wife, Rosalinda Hernandez Cruz of Kenedy; son, Eddie Cruz and wife Josie of Smiley; sisters, Esperanza Espinoza of Freer, Rafaela Cantu of Castroville, Maria Elsa Cruz of Lamesa; brother, Roberto Cruz of George West and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family Visitation will be Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 9AM to 11AM with services at 11AM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with the Deacon Guadalupe Cantu officiating.  Inurnment will take place in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Kenedy, TX.
