BETTY JO MCCLINTOCK PETERSON

On August 27, 2026, at 99 years of age, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, Betty Jo McClintock Peterson, completed her earthly journey and entered into the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Betty, lovingly known as Nanny to so many, was a beautiful testimony of unwavering faith, devotion, love, and service. She dedicated her life to Jesus Christ and faithfully served the Lord all the days of her life. Faith was not simply something she spoke about—it was the foundation upon which she lived, loved, raised her family, and faced every season of life.

Betty was born April 28, 1927, in Kenedy, Texas to Othal Carl McClintock and Pearlie Mae Smith McClintock. She lived her entire life in Kenedy, where she grew up on a farm being the sixth child of seven children. She graduated from Kenedy High School and worked at the Rialto Theatre selling tickets, serving concessions and watching all the movies. After graduation, she became a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. After her family moved into town, she met the love of her life, Harry “Pete” Peterson and was married a short six months later on December 31. 1947. She then became a “stay at home mom” raising her two daughters, Debby and Sherry. Later in life she became a para-professional for Kenedy ISD, where she retired.

Betty’s happiest times were those spent with family and spreading the love of Jesus; she took pride and joy in her role as wife, mother, Nanny and child of God.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years Pete Peterson, her parents; her sisters, Fay Turnipseed, Nona Hull, Delia Post, Ruble Jewett, Oie Kircher, and brother Ray McClintock.

Betty leaves behind a legacy of beautiful memories that will be cherished by her family, including children: Debby Martin, Sherry Sommer and husband Don; grandchildren: Tisha Odom (Mitch), Stacy Martin, Pamela Clark (Matt), Matthew Sommer, and Trey Martin (Allison); great-grandchildren: Zach Odom (Jasmine), Coy Martin, Kale Odom (Taylor), Jacob Clark, Kinsley Sommer, Joshua Clark and Braylee Sommer; and great-great granddaughter Henslee Martin. She also leaves behind one who she loved as a daughter, Judy Berry and her most beloved caregiver, Dalia.Regalado.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 4^th from 4-6 p.m. at Eckols Funeral Home in Kenedy, Texas.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 5th at First Baptist Church of Kenedy at 11 a.m. with Pastor Trey Hill officiating. Graveside service will follow at the Kenedy Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Word Fellowship Church at 110 CR 365 Kenedy, Texas 78119.

Serving as Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons: Matthew Sommer, Trey Martin,  Zachary Odom, Coy Martin,  Kale Odom, Jacob Clark and Joshua Clark.
