James Barnes, Sr., a lifelong resident of Kenedy, Texas passed away in his home, Friday, September 27, 2013 at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 21 days. James was born December 6, 1937 in Oilton, Texas the son of Thomas Alfred Barnes and Ruby Vaughn Barnes. James proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Later, on September 16, 1958, James married Leonora Garza in Laredo, Texas.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Leonora Barnes; his daughters, Barbara Guerrero and husband Armando of Tustin, California and Brenda Villanueva and husband Edward of Kenedy; his sons, James Barnes, Jr., and wife Phyllis of Karnes City, Michael Barnes and wife Katherine, Mark Allen Barnes and wife April and Brian Barnes and wife Cheryl, all of Kenedy; his sisters, Cheryl Schultz and Lisa Fisher and his brothers, Johnny Schultz, Charles Schultz, Larry Barnes and Rodney Gill. James is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mr. Barnes is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ruby Barnes.

Visitation will be held, Monday, September 30, 2013 in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M., Monday in the chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Kenedy with Rev Norbert Herman officiating. Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery.
