Roger Kent Pogue

Roger Kent Pogue, 90, passed away on November 20, 2025.  He was born to James Aliston Pogue and Dora Andersen Pogue in Pawnee, Texas, on June 30, 1935.

He graduated from Kenedy High School in 1954 and Southwest Texas State University (Texas State University) in 1958.  While attending SWT, he married Joyce Maxine Sahm in August 1957.  After graduation, the couple moved to Corpus Christi and began teaching in CCISD and raising their family.

In 1966, Kent received his master’s degree in education and began a career in school administration.  He started as Assistant Principal at Sundeen Jr. High School and ended his tenure in Corpus Christi as Principal of Richard King High School.  After accepting the position of Superintendent of Kingsville ISD, Kent served in that capacity for 15 years from 1976 to 1991.

During his lifetime, Kent served in various leadership roles for church, civic and educational organizations.  He enjoyed socializing, country western dancing, golfing, fishing, hunting and ranching.  As a fun-loving grandfather, “Papaw” took pleasure in a variety of outdoor activities with his grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his wife Joyce, his parents, his brothers James (Bubba) and Lanny Pogue and his sister Billie Jean Goff.

He is survived by his daughters Jamie Pogue Richards (Francis) and Gina Pogue Morris (Nick), son Kyle Kent Pogue (Kelly); grandchildren Austin Richards (Amy), Justin Richards (Gretchen), Caden Pogue and step-grandson Ryan Kim (Erin); great grandson Brandt Richards, great granddaughters Kennedy Richards and Lainey Richards and step-great granddaughter Collins Kim.  He leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

Visitation with Kent’s family will be on Friday, December 5, 2025, beginning at 11:30 am: Eckols Funeral Home, Inc. 420 W. Live Oak St. Kenedy, Texas 78119.

The memorial service in celebration of Kent’s life will be on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 1 pm in the chapel of Eckols Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Ann Dye-Barker officiating.  Interment will follow in Pawnee Cemetery Kenedy Texas 78119.  Pallbearers will be his four grandsons and his two sons-in-law.
