Roy G. Freeman

Roy G. Freeman, of Kenedy, passed away on August 7, 2021 at John Paul II Nursing Home. He was 96 years old.

Roy was born July 2, 1925 in Cameron, TX and was reared in Rosebud, TX. While growing up in Rosebud he was a Boy Scout and graduated Rosebud High School in 1942.

In 1942, he became an “Aggie” at Texas A&M. Roy finished 2 years in college and when he reached the age of 18, he was drafted into the U. S. Navy. He served in the Navy Air Corp as a bombardier for 2 1/2 years.

After WWII was over, he returned to Texas A&M in 1946 and received a B.S. Degree in Agronomy in 1948. That same year he married Betty Boeselt of Westphalia, Texas at College Station Texas.

In December of 1948, Roy went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture -Soil Conservation Service, (SCS) in Kenedy, Texas.

In 1951, he was promoted to the position of “District Conservationist ” for the Kenedy SCS field office. While working for the Soil Conservation Service Roy received awards for his outstanding work in 1959, 1963, and 1968. In 1978, he received the “U.S. Department of Agricultures’s Superior Service Award for Meritorious Public Service to the Karnes- Goliad Soil and Water Conservation District in Resource Conservation and Development, resulting in a “Better Life for Rural and Urban People”.

In August of 1983, Roy retired from the Soil Conservation Service after 37 years of service.

In September of 1983, he went to work for the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and retired in 1999 after 16 years of service.

During Roy’s life in Kenedy, he was regularly active in community organizations and activities. He was a charter member of the Kenedy Junior Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the Karnes County March of Dimes; and Chairman of a Citizens Advisory Committee for the City of Kenedy.

He served as Master of Ceremonies for numerous football banquets, historical society activiites, Chamber of Commerce banquets, and the 50th Anniversary of the Kenedy Rotary Club.

Roy represented the City of Kenedy, and the Kenedy Volunteer Fire Department at 5 different Fireman’s Training Schools at Texas A&M University. He served as a Kenedy Volunteer Fireman for 32 years and received in 1977 the “Fireman of the year” Award.

Roy served on the Board of Directors of the Kenedy Chamber of Commerce; served as Chairman of the Development Fund for Karnes County for Texas A&M University; served on the Building Committee for the construction of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and the Confraternity of Chrsitian Doctrine Building.

He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Kenedy United Way for 15 years; served as councilman for the Texas A&M University’s Association for Former Students. As Councilman he represented Calhoun, Victoria and Karnes Counties.

Roy served on the Kenedy City Council for 14 years.

He served as President of the Kenedy Junior Chamber of Commerce: President of the Kenedy Rotary Club; President of the Kenedy Voluneer Fire Department and the President of the Karnes County A&M Club.

In 2003 ,Roy was selected to receive the “Community Builders Award” form the Kenedy  Masonic Lodge No. 774. This prestigious awasr was designed to enable a Lodge to recognize outstanding non-masons who have distinguished themselves through their services in their community, to the local, state and national governments, their church or to humanity.

In 2004, The Order of the Sons of Hermann in the State of Texas recognized Roy for  humanitarian deeds and service and for outstanding community service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Freeman; father, Roy G. Freeman Sr., his mother, Willie Routon Freeman; a brother, T.H. Freeman; brothers-in-lawL Roy Boeselt and Victor Skrehot.

Roy is survived by a daughter, Bonnie (Richard) Urbanek of San Antonio; sisters-in-laws: Mitzi Boeselt, of San Antonio; Katherine Skrehot, of San Antonio, and Laura (Lynn) Wilkinson of Montgomery, Texas. Special friends: Juanita Arrozola and Albert Baldaramos from Kenedy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 10:00a.m. at Eckols Chapel with Rev. Randy Witte officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 3:00p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park.

Carrol Wayne Lake

Carrol Wayne Lake, 72, of Hobson, Texas passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 3, 2021, in Floresville, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer. Carrol was born on November 21, 1948, in Houston, Texas to Reverend Clayton A. Lake and Willene Wommack Lake. Carrol was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and devoted friend to all who crossed his path.

Carrol was a 1966 graduate of Kenedy High School and attended Bee County College. Carrol married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Jan Ada Jimerson on December 6, 1969, at the First Baptist Church of Kenedy and they were blessed with two sons.

Carrol is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather William Schulz, and brothers-in-law Helmuth Schuenemann and Robert Best.

Carrol began his career as a milk truck driver, was the co-owner with Richard Foster of Homeport Auto-Chrysler Dodge in Aransas Pass. With a growing family, Carrol joined Helmuth Schuenemann doing land-title work. With his love of the “chase”, started his own company Carrol W. Lake and Associates. With the growing interest in the Eagle Ford Shale, Carrol and his wife Jan created C. W. Lake and Associates, LTD and C.W. Lake Mgt LLC, later son Chris and his wife Angela joined the company, and together built one of the most respected Land Energy Brokerage Service Companies in the State of Texas. Carrol retired in January 2014 from the Oil and Gas Industry, Carrol remained active in his rental property management and acquisitions in Port Aransas and his beloved second home of Rockport.

Some of his most treasured accolades were the awards for the 2013 Best Landman for C.W. Lake and Associates by Texas Top Producers and was featured in Texas Monthly Magazine, 2013 Friend of Karnes County Youth Show, Honorary Chapter FFA Degree, and the Business of the Year in 2010 by the Chamber of Commerce of Kenedy. Holding on to his youth, Carrol was a member of the Legends of Kenedy for the years 1965-1966, cherishing life-long friendships with his teammates who visited and remembered those glory days over coffee, charity baseball games, and class reunions.

Carrol enjoyed farming, ranching, and spending time in Rockport with Family & Friends. He was a constant presence at anything to do with the Falls City ISD and the Beaver Nation. Carrol’s grandchildren filled years with unconditional love, joy, laughter and pride as they tempted his patience, excelled and “played” hard.

Carrol was a man of faith and a deep love of God-member of the First Baptist Church of Kenedy, former school board member for the Kenedy ISD, member of Karnes City Chamber of Commerce, Kenedy Chamber of Commerce, Karnes County Toys for Tots, Kenedy VFD, served on numerous boards and committees including Karnes County Youth Livestock Show, Falls City Education Foundation, Co-Founder of the Polish Invitational Fishing Tournament-Rockport, Falls City Youth League, Falls City All-Sports Booster Club, and the American Association of Professional Landmen. Carrol enjoyed early morning coffee with the Breakfast Club at the Palace Cafe’, the official Falls City roundtable of friends who “solved the world’s problems” and solidified the phrase, “If you heard it at the Palace, It Has To Be True.” Carrol also held and relished the title as the one of the few people who could “Put one over on Vicki”.

Carrol is survived by his wife of 51 years: Jan Ada Jimerson Lake; his sons: Chris Lake (Angela) Lake of Falls City, TX and Clayton Lake of San Antonio, TX. Carrol was blessed with four grandchildren, his granddaughter: Kalin Lake and fiance’ Ryan Pawelek; grandsons: Tristan Sittler, Brady Lake, and Braxton Lake. He is survived by his sister: Cindy (Kenny) Rose of New Braunfels,  TX; brothers: Clay (Martha) Lake of San Antonio, TX and Gene (Becky) Lake of Seguin,  TX; brothers-sisters-in-law: Tommy J (Linda) Jimerson of Choate, TX, Jerry (Julie) Jimerson of Arlington, TX, Jo Ellen Jimerson Sheunemann of Kenedy, TX, Jeanne Jimerson Best of Cuero, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, and special life-long friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021, from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 9, 2021 at 10:00a.m. at Eckols Chapel with Rev. Matt Singleton officiating.

Interment to follow in the Choate Cemetery, Choate, TX.

Serving as Pallbearers will be: Brady Lake, Braxton Lake, Tristan Sittler, John Bailey, Gery Jendrusch, Ernest Jendrusch, Ivan Kaskinia, Craig Nieschwietz, and Ryan Pawelek.

Jamason Daniel Barrientez

Jamason Daniel Barrientez, Age 3 of Kenedy, TX went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, August 1, 2021.  Daniel was born on March 24, 2018 in Beeville, TX to James and Courtney Hinojosa Barrientez. Daniel was a loving son, brother who loved the minions and was of Christian faith.

Daniel is preceded in death by his Maternal Great-Grandfather, Dan Mejia and Paternal Great-grandparents, Ramon and Teresa Hinojosa.

Daniel is survived by his loving parents, James and Courtney Hinojosa Barrientez of Kenedy; sister, Aubrey Rose Ramirez of Kenedy; brothers, James Barrientez, Jr. of Kenedy, Bentley Ray Barrientez of Kenedy, Jonah Zayn Barrientez of Kenedy; Paternal Grandparents, Jerry and Mary Jane Barrientez of Kenedy, Maternal Grandparents, Mary Sue Rose of Floresville and Ramon Hinojosa of Kenedy; Maternal Great-Grandmother, Natalia Mejia of Kenedy; Aunts and Uncles, Jessica Salinas of Floresville, Shaina and Ladis Barrientez of Kenedy, Gingy and R.J. Emma Hermis Donaubauer

Emma Hermis Donaubauer, Age 94, of Kenedy, TX passed away, Tuesday, August 3, 2021 in Kenedy, TX.  Emma was born on October 20, 1926 in Hobson, TX to the late Julius and Angeline Olsovesky Hermis.  Emma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend to many and a devout member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.   She is preceded in death by her husband, G.W. Donaubauer; parents, Julius and Angeline Olsovesky Hermis; sons, Andrew John and Harold John; sisters, Hermina Hermis, Christina Syring, and Marcine Dupnik.  She is survived by her sons, Charles Donaubauer and wife Gloria of Kenedy, Gilmer Donaubauer of Kenedy; grandchildren, Dawn Donaubauer of San Antonio, Angela Rodriguez and husband Joe of San Antonio, Melinda Eilers and husband John of Fredericksburg, Lee Ann Donaubauer-Rendon and husband Juan Carlo of Edinburg, Lindsy Morin and husband Ramon of Lakeside, CA, Thomas Donaubauer and wife Jennifer of Converse, 8 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way.  A Holy Rosary will be recited Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Norbert Hermann officiating.  Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery.   Serving as Pallbearers will be:  Thomas Donaubauer, Joe Rodriguez, John Eilers, Juan Carlo Rendon, David Dupnik and Matthew Gotthardt.
