Alton Gross

Alton Gross, 83, of Karnes City, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Gross was born July 2, 1928, in Peggy, to Oscar Gross and Melitta Gross. He married LaNell Gross and was a pipeline foreman and a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaNell Gross; and parents, Oscar Gross and Melitta Gross.

Survivors include two daughters, Amy Gross of Karnes City and Sherry Crowder of Luling; two sons, Dale (Julie) Gross of Leonard and Tommy (Jena) Gross of Firestone, Colo.; a sister, Norma Zamzow of Karnes City; two brothers, Erwin (Clarice) Gross of Houston and Herbert (JoAnn) Gross of Huntsville, Ark.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Charlene and John Braudaway and sister-in-law, Dorothy Gross; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Eckols Chapel.

The funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Aug. 31, at First Baptist Church in Karnes City with Rev. Kevin Cornelius officiating. Burial followed at the Choate Cemetery in Choate.

Pallbearers were Tyler Bryan, Eddie Saxton, Cal Bradley, Pat Dzuik, Thomas Brownfield, Ed Griffin and David Jones.

Honorary pallbearers were all the men Sunday school members of Karnes City First Baptist Church, Michael Braudaway and Dr. Rayford Mitchell.
