Barbara Caryl Eakle Baker

Barbara Caryl Eakle Baker age 67 of Kenedy, TX died Sept. 10, 2010 in Castro Valley, Ca.  Barbara had just returned from her 50th. class reunion of Castro Valley High School with her husband and twenty of her classmates from a cruise to Alaska on Sept. 9th.  She was born Dec. 20, 1942 in Denver CO to the late James & Ida Dormer Eakle.  She worked in the Oil & Gas accounting field.  Barbara married Herb Baker in Sept. 6, 1988 in Denver, CO and has lived on their ranch for the past 13 years in Kenedy.

She is survived by her husband herb Baker of Kenedy, Daughters Carlynn Walters of Kenedy, Rebecca Birnbaum of Salt Lake City, UT, Veronica Requejo of  Yucaipa, CA, and Jennifer Sims of Yucaipa, CA.  Sons Richard Walters of South Lake Tahoe, CA and Jerry Baker of.  Many grandchildren.  Sister Nancy Spicklemier of Denver, CO and Brother William Eakle of Militas, CA.

The family will receive friends at the Eckols Funeral Home Friday, Sept. 17th. from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 18th. at 2:00 PM.  Memorials may be made in Barbara’s name to the charity of your choice.

Kenneth Rochell Leggett, Jr., M.D. (1931-2010)

Kenneth Rochell Leggett, 79 of Pettus, Texas, a retired Arlington obstetrician/gynecologist and avid outdoorsman, passed away quietly

On September 11, 2010 after a courageous battle with brain cancer

Kenneth was born on August 26, 1931, in Westlake, Louisiana, and was raised in Pettus, Texas. After Graduating high school, Kenneth enrolled in Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas for one year, then attended the University of Texas at Austin.  After UT, Kenneth graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in 1955 with his medical degree.  In 1956, he married his wife of 54 years, Beverly.  Kenneth and Beverly moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where Kenneth served his country honorably as a captain and flight surgeon in the United States Air Force.  After completing his residency in Dallas, he and his family moved back to Arlington in 1961 where he practiced as an obstetrician/gynecologist for 41 years.

Kenneth was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed. He was honest, loving, pragmatic, dependable and loyal to all who knew him.  He was a member of the Rotary Club of Arlington and was quietly philanthropic to those in need.  He loved the outdoors and especially hunting and fishing.  He went to Alaska each year for 20 years, where he enjoyed cooking for the other hunters as much as hunting and fishing.  He retired to his ranch near his hometown of Pettus where he enjoyed the everyday puttering and tinkering of ranch life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth, Sr. and Juanita and son, Kenneth Hunt Leggett.  He is survived by his wife Beverly, son, Steven, daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Bill Linscott and their children, Billy, Kit and Courtney.

Private graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Mineral Cemetery in Mineral, TX.

A.F. Windmeyer

A.F. Windmeyer age 67 of Karnes City died September 8, 2010 in Breaux Bridge La.  He was born in Cuero, TX to the late Herbert and Ida Fenner Windmeyer.  A.F. retired from the Texas Highway Dept. after 42 years of service.  He married Sandra Mock Jan. 5, 1985 in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenedy. 

He is survived by his wife Sandra Windmeyer of Karnes City, daughters Cindy and husband Rick Coursey of Sherman, TX, And Shelly and husband Chris King of Round Rock TX, Sons Mike Windmeyer of Dallas, Lloyd and wife Sharon Vaughn, Jr. of San Antonio & Kevin and wife Dawn Vaughn of Beeville, TX.  Sister Lorene Janek of Karnes City.  Grandchildren Derek Windmeyer, Benjamin, Jake, Joshua, Kristopher, and Allison Vaughn.  Nieces Sheila Moczygemba and Sheri Kotara.  Great Nephews Traye Moczygemba, Bryce Moczygemba, and Matthew Kotara.

The family will receive friends at the Eckols Chapel Friday September 10th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11th. at 2:00 PM  from the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenedy.  Interment will be in the Kenedy Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Lloyd Koerth, Danny Koerth, Pat Moczygemba, Terry Wood, Pete Kotara and Traye Moczygemba.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Busselman, Bill Homeyer, James Voight, Jeremy Voight, Jack Thraser and Larry Ryals.

Charles Ealy Nichols

Charles Ealy Nichols, 90,  of Three Rivers, Texas passed away Saturday, September 4, 2010

He was born September 14, 1919 in Kenedy Texas and moved to Three Rivers with his parents, the late James Fred Nichols and Icie Price Nichols. 

Charles (Charlie) Nichols attended grade school and then entered the Allen Military Academy in Bryan.  He served his country during World War II as a Lieutenant with the U.S. Army 9th Division in Europe.  He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6119 of Three Rivers and a member of the American Legion for 65 years. 

Charles was a rancher and Appaloosa horse breeder enthusiast.  He was one of the original founders of the South Texas Appaloosa Breeders Club ( STAB) and lifetime permanent Director.  In February, 2010, Charlie was recognized by the club at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition for his continue support and Sponsor of the youth

Charles was with the U.S. Postal Service in Three Rivers for 39 years as a rural route carrier and Assistant Postmaster.  His humor, friendly service and pleasurable company was a delight to many of his friends.  He honored his friends with “ Glad you got to see me” and for close to 90 years he hung his hat in stores and restaurants knowing Three Rivers is home. 

His parents and his wife, Dorothy McAda Nichols, preceded him in death.  They were married 57 years.

Survivors included Carroll Joe Nichols, Jim Tom Nichols and Linda Slay. 

He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews in the McAda family.  

A service will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Eckols Funeral Home in Kenedy, Texas.  Family and friends may give their respects at 10:00 am, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am.  The Reverend Harry West of the First United Methodist Church of Three Rivers will Officiate.  Interment will follow at Kenedy Cemetery.

Severing as pallbearers are :   James Fred Nichols, Dylan Ealy Nichols, Nash Nichols, Raymond Soliz, Judge Jim Huff , Acie Craig McAda and Bob Edwards. 

Memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Three Rivers.

Maria “Mary” Danmier

Mary Danmier age 85 of Karnes City died August 30, 2010 in a Kenedy Nursing Home.  She was born September 20, 1924 in Cuevitas, TX to Federico and Cecilia Reyna Munoz.  She married Edwin Danmier July 28, 1943 in Hebbronville, TX and he preceded her in death Feb. 19, 1981. She is survived by her daughter Bertha (Donaciano) Aldrete of Hebbronville, Sons Oscar and wife Mary Danmier of Runge, TX and Robert and his wife Jan Danmier of Beeville, TX.  Brothers Pablo Munoz of Hebbronville, and Thomas Munoz of Kansas.

A Rosary will be recited Thur. Sept. 2, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the Eckols Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 3rd. at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.  Interment will be in the Kenedy Cemetery.

Luciano “Chito” Chapa

Luciano Chapa age 79 of Kenedy died August 22, 2010 in Beeville, TX.  He was born Sept. 20, 1930 in Mineral, TX to Abundio amd Celedina Zambrano Chapa.  He is survived by his sister Maria Gonzales of Shamrock, TX and Brother David Chapa of Kenedy.

A prayer service was held Tuesday, August 24th. in the Eckols Chapel at 7:00 PM and Funeral services was held August 25th. at 10:00 AM with Rev. Basilio Martinez officiating.  Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Candido P. Diaz

Candido Diaz  age 89 of Kenedy died August 30, 2010 in a Karnes City Nursing Home.  He was born Sept. 4, 1920 in Pettus, TX to Doroteo and Anita Pena Diaz.  He was a veteran of World War II.  He is survived by by his grandchildren Maria Teresa Snelgrove, Melena Hitt, and Rachel Diaz all of Sebring, FL.  Sisters Jovita Cruz of Kenedy,  Petra Vasquez of San Antonio, Beatrice Perez of Kenedy and Hilaria Rodriguez of Karnes City.

A Rosary will be held Wed. September 1, 2010 at 7 PM at the Eckols Chapel.  Mass will be celebrated Thur. Sept. 2nd. at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with his nephews serving as pallbearers.  Intwerment will be in the Pettus Cemetery with Military Honors.

Juanita Villanueva

Juanita Villanueva age 85 of Kenedy died August 29th. in Kenedy.  She was born Dec. 31, 1924 in Goliad County, TX to Majin and Maria Villanueva, Sr. She is survived by her sisters Solia & Mary Villanueva of Kendy, Brother Majin Villanueva, Jr.

A Rosary was held Monday, Aug. 30th. at 7 PM from the Eckols Chapel, Mass was celebrated Tuesday, at 10 AM at Our lady of Peace Catholic Church.  Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Jose DeLa Rosa

Jose DeLa Rosa, age 95 of  Kenedy died August 22, 2010 in a Karnes City nursing home.  He was born in Mexico January 6, 1915.  He came to the US and worked on ranches most of his life.  He married Rita Salinas and she preceded him in death.  He is survived by stepchildren Rosa and husband Enrique Carrasco of Kenedy, Mark DeLa Rosa, and grandsons Johnny and Chris Carrasco both of Kenedy.

Rosary will be recited Wednesday, Aug. 25th. At 7 PM at the Eckols Chapel.  Mass will be at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at 10:00 AM.  Interment will be in the Sacred Heaart Cemetery.

Jason Allen White-Adams

Jason A. White-Adams “Jay White”, son of James and Darlene Adams.  Jason was born on June 10, 1984 in San Antonio, TX and passed away on August 19, 2010 in Dallas, TX.  Jason attended Karnes City High School and moved to Austin, TX to complete his senior year and graduate from Travis B. Williams High School.  After moving to Dallas, TX he pursued a degree in business and music production at El Centro Community College.  Jason’s passion was writing and producing music.  He is survived by his parents, James and Darlene, brothers, Austin, Nicholas, and Allen Ray Luna,  and grandmothers Dora F. Molina and Margaret Kollekowski. 

Family Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm  Tuesday ,August 24, 2010 at the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary will then be recited at 7:00pm  at the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gabriel Kamienski officiating.  Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 10:00am at the Eckols Fueneral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Pogue officiating.  Interment will be in the Falls City Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Adams, Nicholas Adams, Jeff Angell, Rusty Angell, Allen Ray Luna, and Gerry Molina. Honorary pallbearers Lonnie Saenz, Isaac Gonzales, Darrell Buckner, Charlie Alvear, Clifton Spencer.
