Adolph F. Kauffmann, III
Dr. Adolph Frederick Kauffmann, III passed away at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX on October 12, 2011. He is survived by his wife Shyrl Kauffmann of Boerne and daughter Angelica Madison and children of San Antonio, his sister Nancy Avant and her children Jimmy Avant, wife Betty, and grandchildren Alicia and Jessie of Mesquite, TX, Nanette and husband Alan Borden of Corpus Christi, and son Ben of Montreal, Canada, his daughter Ginger and Joe Gearheart of Fort Worth, three sons Naval Pilot and Commander Albon Head and wife Molly and granddaughters of Norfolk, VA, Tyler Head and wife Hannah and grandsons, also a pilot and Naval Academy graduate, Robert Head wife Brenna and grandson, daughter Janet and Ned Hardin, and grandchildren Trey Hardin, Holland Hardin and daughter Debbie and Chuck Koelling of Garland.
Dr. Kauffmann was born in Lincoln, NC to Adolph Kauffmann, II and Nanette Rudisell on March 5, 1919 and grew up in Kenedy, TX. He graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. He went to medical school at UTMB in Galveston and graduated in 1943, did his residence in surgery at UTMB and also at the top 3rd in his class at Philadelphia General Hospital as a boarded surgeon. He practiced surgery for many years in Fort Worth. He retired from his surgical practice in 1992, became a designated doctor at K Clinic in the Metroplex. He moved to Boerne in 2004 and continued practicing medicine around the state.
He was a Veteran of WWII and served in the Navy in the Pacific until the war was over. He was a member of the College Board of Surgeons, the AMA, Singleton Surgical Society, Texas Surgical Society and Tarrant County Medical Society. He was a member of Rivercrest County Club in Fort Worth and a member of the Steeple Chase debutant Society in Fort Worth, Fair Oaks Ranch Country Club, a member of the Rotary Club for many years. He was a recipient of the Paul Harris International Ribbon and Metal.
Visitation was held at Eckols Funeral Home Chapel in Kenedy, TX on October 14, 2011 from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 1pm at Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with the Episcopalian Rev. Robert Johnston officiating from Victoria, TX. Interment was held in the Kenedy Cemetery, Kenedy, TX with a Naval Honor Guard and bugler from Veteran of Foreign Wars.
The pallbearers were his grandsons Naval Commander and Pilot Albon Head of Norfolk, VA, Tyler Head also a Pilot and Naval Academy Graduate, Robert Head of Baltimore, MD, Jimmy Avant of Misquite, Allen Borden of Corpus Christi and Albert Kahanek of Sachse, TX.
